The Color of Water by James McBride:
James, who is biracial, asks the ultimate question on pg. 92: "Am I black or white?"
His mother, Ruth, who is white and Jewish: "You're a human being. Educate yourself or you'll be a nobody."
Humanity has no color, and the message Ruth sent to her young son was that if you behave with dignity and poise, you will be respected.

This quote is from one of my favorite books, Beloved by Toni Morrison: "Freeing yourself was one thing; claiming ownership of that freed self was another." -Sethe, the main character, who "spoke" extensively on her life as a former slave...and her attempt to gain control of her life after she became free.
Those days of eating and drinking are over. That's a good thing. Now, time to go back to more "normal" or should I say "standard" eating habits.....I desperately need to lose weight. Yeah, desperately. I need to fight with the elephant. Wish me luck!!
