Having secured the French Open title, Russian star, Maria Sharapova, is hoping to become the first woman in 10 years to record back-to-back titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Those that bet online with Bet Victor
will note that she is a strong favourite to do just that.
America’s Serena Williams was the last player to perform the feat, back in 2002, and with the competition for titles seemingly increasing by the year, nobody has been able to do it since.
But if anyone has a chance of breaking the trend, it’s Sharapova, who finished as runner-up in the competition at SW19, last season, and has enjoyed a decent 12 months on the courts.
Her dominant display across the Channel, this season, highlighted what she can do when she is playing near her best tennis, and there could still be more to come from the Russian, who secured her first Wimbledon title at the tender age of just 17.
Now at 25-years-old, Sharapova has won all the four Grand Slam tournaments, with the French Open being the final feather in her cap, after already claiming the Australian Open, US Open, and, of course, the Wimbledon titles.
But what could make Sharapova a true great of the game, is the fact that she is still hungry for success, and recording back-to-back Grand Slam titles with a win at the All England Club would clearly mean a lot to the talented player.
She said: "I think it's the toughest back to back grand slam-wise, no doubt. As much as you want to celebrate and enjoy, you come here and it is like a whole new ball game.
"As far as the success I had at the French Open is concerned, my first time getting to the finals and winning it and coming here, I think it's not really what has been achieved before, I think it's going out there and trying to achieve something that you want to do."
