Federer looks to bounce back

Posted 04-20-2011 at 11:21 AM by Philip Oliver
By the time Wimbledon comes around at the end of June, Roger Federer will be hoping to have reclaimed his place among the world's top two players, after his disappointing season so far saw Novak Djokovic climb ahead of the Swiss star in the world rankings. One of the main reasons behind Federer's slip in the rankings has been his form against his the players around him, so far this season losing every match against both Rafael Nadal and Djokovic.

If the 16-time Grand Slam winner is going to add any more to his albeit greedy collection, then he's going to need to start regaining his confidence when coming up against the two current top players in the world. If Federer is going to prove wrong his critics, who believe he is on a permanent slide, then Wimbledon is going to give him is best chance. Although Nadal is the current champion of the famous tournament, it is Federer who will see himself as the rightful king of Wimbledon and will be out to reclaim his crown. The Wimbledon betting will no doubt make him among the favourites.

Federer has dominated at the All England Club for the past eight years winning six titles, and it would be a brave soul who doubts the Swiss maestro will be challenging this year to reclaim his title from Nadal. The Spaniard will once again be Federer's biggest obstacle on his way to victory, but Djokovic will certainly be another major threat and this year could be one of Wimbledon's most open in recent years.

Federer: Confidence or Lack of Committment and Focus?

Wimdledon is the perfect tournament for the Fed to regain a win against Nadal or Djokovic. But Federer's biggest hurdle is in my opinion not so much diminished confidence but poor focus and committment to win.
Is it perhaps that he has "done it all" and is now more interested in being a family man? Or have his interests broadened even further into commercial advertising? I know that this last question may sound ludacris but in a recent video shoot he commented on how he found commercial shoots more intersting to him because they were so diffrent then playing tennis.
Roger doesn't seem to want the wins enough to really get fit mentally and physically to overcome the younger faster stronger opponents like Rfa and Novak.
I'd love to see him win a trophy in Wimbledon. What a graceful game he plays. But can he really focus and commit himself to doing what it takes to win? Ferrer is the same age as Roger and "see that man run". Why the difference between the two? I say intensity of focus, belief and committment to win.
