Reader's Quote Part 12
From Ines of My Soul by Isabel Allende:
pg. 265: Courage is a virtue appreciated in a man but considered a defect in our gender. Bold women are a threat to a world that is badly out of balance, in favor of men..."
Ines lamented to her maid, Catalina, the state of her relationship with Pedro de Valdivia and her role as co-founder of Santiago, Chile. Although it was he who pitched the stakes to claim the land, it was she who made the place inhabitable for all people. She, like many women, believes that women's courage is underrated and overlooked by men.
Had Ines not undertaken the task of transforming the barren land into a livable, sustainable, comfortable community, Pedro's conquest would mean nothing.
