Reader's Quote Part 3
This quote is from another favorite, Joy Luck Clubby Amy Tan.
pg. 89: I was six years old when my mother taught me the art of invisible strength. It was a strategy of winning arguments, respect from others, and eventually, though neither of us knew it at the time, chess games."-Waverly Jong.
Mothers and daughters share a unique relationship-well, females in general share unique-and powerful-relationships among one another.
Waverly, who was raised in America, and her mother, who raised in China and immigrated to America after WWII, work together to bridge the cultural gap that exists between the two. In their relationship, they have some rough times, but they slowly learn how to come to terms with their differences and learn valuable lessons about love and family.
