**Sunday Finals!! Roddick vs Haas!**

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. :woohoo: I can't believe I'm this excited over a tournament that has no website (well, there's a website but it's the worst of all the tourneys so far :ras: ), barely any live scoring available, and isn't being broadcast anywhere in the states (unless you're one of the 1.3% of Americans who have the Tennis Channel).

But I've been dreaming of a Roddick/Haas showdown forever and we're finally getting one! How can I not be excited? How can *anybody* not be excited?

Roddick and Haas haven't met up since 2002. Haas has won all three of their matches, two on clay, one on hardcourt. Haas is looking to top off his excellent comeback with a title and what better way to do it than with his very own pigeon?

Roddick is looking to reclaim the Houston title that he's won three times already (2 singles and 1 double), and also to finally settle a score with the German who so far has had the upper-hand on him. ;)

But this isn't 2002. Andy's game has matured a lot since then. Has Tommy's? We will see! Good luck to both champions. :D :yeah:

Normally TV times are given in eastern time if there isn't another designation. Plus that would be 3pm Houston time and that sounds like a regular time for a final.

GO Tommy!! :bounce: :bounce:

I knew that he would do well in his comeback but a Final this soon??? Didn't expect that! I hope that whichever way this Final ends up it will be a tight one! Obviously, I hope that Tommy can be holding up the winners' trophy tomorrow but he's still had a great week regardless.

This could be the best Final of all 3 tourneys this week and it has the WORST coverage. Go figure  . I guess we can only hope they learn their lesson for next year and spend a bit of money on the website.

Neely,
In the US there are cable companies and there are satellites companies. The companies decide what channels they will carry based on cost and consumer interest. Only a few of the cable companies have decided to carry the Tennis Channel in a few of the states here and neither of the 2 big satellite companies will carry it yet. The cable company for most of Northern California is Comcast, and they have not picked it up for this area yet. Cable companies get a monopoly in any given region, so your choices are cable, no cable, or a satellite dish, or this new Voom service that some people think is going to fail in about 6 months. It's kind of complicated to explain, but we can't just put any old satellite dish on the roof and get every channel in the world (I wish we could though).

Go Tommy!

Well Andy won 6 tournaments last year (which all came after Houston), and two more this year, and then this final. So that's 9.

St. Poelten, Queens, Indianapolis, Montreal, Cincinnati, US Open, San Jose, Miami....and then this Houston final.

Katherine, please get over it. Mack was fine and Tommy also said that one of the reasons he came to Houston is because of how well Mack treats him and all the players. You don't have to believe me, I don't care. But Mack was being sincere. And so was Tommy I think. Andy HAS done a LOT for Mack and this tournament by continuing to come back. So I think that Mack has every right to thank him for sacrificing himself, which he CLEARLY DID this week, to come out of a sense of duty and loyalty. That is special, and if Mack wants to thank him I don't see a problem with that. For the record, the guy from the bank also said something about Andy.... when he was giving Tommy his check. Andy is very appreciated here and it goes much deeper and much beyond the fact that he's just an American player. There is a personal connection with Andy, this tournament, the McInvales, and the fans, and it's something very special. And if anyone doesn't like it I really suggest you just get over it because it's really getting annoying hearing about it lol

Katherine, please get over it. And if anyone doesn't like it I really suggest you just get over it because it's really getting annoying hearing about it lol

Never said that I wasn't going to believe you BUT you also seem to have this respect for McIngvale that doesn't allow you to see his very negative attributes. I understand that you probably don't want to believe the stories from witnesses about McIngvale's behavior at the Masters' Cup but that was unforgivable, in my opinion. It doesn't matter how much time passes or how well he conducted himself today or later this year. So, will I ever "get over it?" Nope because what he did was an embarrassment and to call himself a tennis fan is laughable. I'm sure he wishes that he could have a separate Masters Cup just for the Americans.

And, of course, it's getting annoying for you to hear about it. Roddick is your top dog and Roddick and MacIngvale are like two peas in a pod it seems...lol. And you wouldn't want to disrespect anyone who slobbers all over Roddick :D .

Haven't you seen about 20 of Bunk's posts where she has said that she doesn't like Mac? She thinks he's annoying.

I don't know about you, but I live and work in the big world. There are plenty of people I work with frequently who aren't my cup of tea. But I can see the good they do as well as the bad.

In my line of work, I see people doing truly dispicable things so the idea that because someone is ungracious and unsporting at a tennis tournament, they must be cast beyond the pale is truly laughable to me.

I've given up trying to explain that in life people are made up of good and bad and have days of heroism and days of infamy.

Deboogle!.
04-19-2004, 01:08 AM
You're mistaken if you think that I like Mack. He's annoying, obnoxious, cheap, loud, selfish, and many other things.

But he is also generous, loyal, charitous, and fair.

It is possible to see both the good and bad qualities of a person and I see both the good and bad qualities in Mack. I see so many people on this board who are unwilling to recognize good things he does. At TMC he learned to love doubles, so today he took his own money and matched the doubles winners and finalists prizes to the singles prizes. Is that not a wonderful thing? That has nothing to do with America or Andy or Andre or anyone else, it has to do with a person taking his values and making a decision.

This has nothing to do with the fact that Andy is my favorite player. It has to do with recognizing how much ANDY has done for this tournament and that I personally find it OK for Mack to take two minutes to thank him. Mack was right, Andy did not have to play, but he did, most likely because he felt badly that Andre pulled out.

How can you say if Mack is a tennis fan or not? You don't know him!!! Do you honestly think he would build 4 courts at an inner city school and make this tournament what it's turned into if he did not like tennis? Are you serious?????? It's his love for the game that drove him to do all these things, and that's quite obvious. So he's overly patriotic and has sometimes expressed that inappropriately. Obviously to some of you, that's a bad enough thing so that he gets hung out to dry for it. But the thing is - even the non-American players keep commenting about how much they LOVE this tournament, and they always specifically talk about Mack and Linda (his wife) and how well they are treated. Pavel said it, Haas said it, Knowles and Nestor said it - and none of them are American, so that sort of kills your argument, doesn't it?

As for believing what Mack did... I don't have to deny it, much of it was on tv. Never once did I say what he did was right. But sorry, I don't believe in condemning a person forever because of those kinds of mistakes. Almost nothing to me is unforgiveable. Maybe murder. You hurt my mom or my dad, ok that too you're on my shit list for life. But what Mack did? To me, that is forgiveable, and outside the flag shirts, I didn't see one ounce of inappropriate behavior from Mack this week. If you want to harp on it til you die, enjoy wasting your energy on it, but to me it's simply not worth it. There are more important things in life than what a glorified furniture salesman does at a tennis tournament.

Deboogle!.
04-19-2004, 01:12 AM
thank you star.

I'm done now. This is ridiculous. I don't like defending him because he IS so obnoxious. And some of the things that have been said about him on MTF are so off-base that it's not even worth trying to reason with it. People can believe whatever they want. Andy can show he's one of the most gracious players on tour and people will forever call him an asshole. Mack will give all kinds of charity and do all kinds of good things in the tennis world and people will forever harp on the one time he made a mistake. And that's just really sad.

I don't know about 2 of the 4. But, charitable? Yes (what ever his motives may be). Fair? I don't know about that one. I haven't seen any fairness so far. I can't comment about generous and loyal. Don't know the man and hope I never do.

At TMC he learned to love doubles, so today he took his own money and matched the doubles winners and finalists prizes to the singles prizes. Is that not a wonderful thing?

Good for him. That's respectable.

It's his love for the game that drove him to do all these things, and that's quite obvious.

I didn't say that he wasn't an out right Tennis fan. He's a fan of American Tennis. I can bet everything I have that you ask him about the other top ranked players from other countries and he wouldn't know a whole lot. I don't really differentiate him from any other casual fan of the sport.

even the non-American players keep commenting about how much they LOVE this tournament, and they always specifically talk about Mack and Linda (his wife) and how well they are treated. Not really. All of these comments were said to the media, right? If these comments were said to me or someone I know in a casual conversation then it would be a different story. I take everything I hear or read in the media with a grain of salt until I hear it for myself.

Well I don't go up to tennis players and talk to them and if I did, I wouldn't ask them about their opinion of Mattress Mack :haha:

From what I heard, the worst of it was never reported to the mainstream media. And we all know that if it's not reported it didn't happen

well in that case it is just personal interpretation of what happened. you and I might both see something and see it totally differently. Not that being reported in the mass media is any different, that's interpretation too. So none of us know what was said to any player behind closed doors. so none of us know the full story, so none of us should judge anyone.

Well I don't go up to tennis players and talk to them and if I did, I wouldn't ask them about their opinion of Mattress Mack :haha:

I don't know if you meant it the way you said it but "tennis players" are human beings. There's absolutely nothing special about these people that makes them larger than life. Maybe it's just me and that i don't put athletes, actors, etc. on special pedestals but i don't see why it would be such a strange thing to talk to a "tennis player."

And I said casual conversation, not that you would out right ask their opinion. Like in any other conversation you have with someone, if it was something on your mind and interesting to the conversation, then you bring it up.
