It was so obvoius. All of the sudden Fed does S&V only even on 2nd serve and gets broken to love. I tell you it's fishy. Anyone makes a bet on Fed winning the 2nd set with a similar socreline?1 ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if they had agreed beforehand about the score.

If you're going to SV you must do it serving on the clay side and it's still got to be very good.

Fed was trying it while on the grass and that's just asking for trouble.

lordmanji
05-02-2007, 03:38 PM
fed holds serve easily with putting away mid court balls into rafa's backhand corner. fed seems more relaxed - he's smiled a few times during the course of this match - and i think he's playing much better than the first few games of the first set.

fed has really loosened up his play, including some more variety - slice backhand downtheline shots - into his game.

Well it's always easy to swing at the ball freely, if you know you're winning the set beforehand. ;) :p
But nboth are starting to play better, that's true.

lordmanji
05-02-2007, 03:41 PM
fed seems more troubled with the different bounces of the two courts than rafa. he's had to adjust last second on some of rafa's serves and possibly rafa has added more twist on his twist serve.

They're both playing pretty well considering the timing issues and the headfuck issue of standing on grass but knowing your shot will respond to the clay on the other side

It's a grass court. The risk of getting injured while diving is pretty low. It's not like he's going to twist his ankle, while diving. :)

Rafa broke but 3bp down at the moment.

I had a feeling it could go that way. They are far too competitive with each other to tank the match, And frankly, people want to see them in a serious competitive match, it's the best form of entertaiment.

Plus, I *love* Rog and fond of Rafa, but to get the serious laughs going, they need Andy Roddick as the umpire (now, wouldn't that be a laugh?)

on the other hand, if fed wins this he could do major psychological damage to rafa beating him in his own town. rafa is sure to take a lot of pride in this match and bringing tennis to his town. either way it goes down rafa has more to lose now that fed has made it a respectable match

Chris Seahorse

You can try it but it won't work - the clay side guy has all the time to make the pass - it has to be SUPERB to work.

It has to be good true, but they are guys like Max Mirnyi or Radek Stepanek who are quite effective serve and volleying on clay. And consider the alternative, how many rallies are going to be won by the guy on grass, not many. Truth is the odds are stacked against the guy on the grass side all the time but the guy on grass's best chance is to finish the point as fast as possible by serve and volleying. Even then their chances of holding aren't great, true, but consider the alternative.
