When do you know the WC for this tournament ?
thanks

Officially, they are announced only a few days before the tournament starts. But it will be a good idea to have a look at the qualy entry list when it comes out next week. Last year, those german players who later got WCs were missing on it. (I think, WC for Kohlschreiber is 99.99 percent sure, especially after his performance in Monte Carlo)

Please no WC to Rainer this time.

So who are the WC candidates besides Summerer and Kohlschreiber?

The next Germans in the ranking are Greul (108), Berrer (111), Waske (129), Phau (134), Schüttler (141), Zverev (146)

The only one of them who has had some good results recently is Berrer. Schüttler is the only big name and Waske the only DC player. Zverev is the only one from Hamburg and the only youngster. I think the remaining two WC will go to two of these four.

JMG
04-24-2007, 09:25 PM
They always give one to Waske.

Michael Stich is a Kamke fan btw. I read that he got him a WC in Heilbronn. Maybe he has some influence in Hamburg as well.

Last year Waske didn't get any WC and had to qualify to get into the main draw (lost against Ancic). Maybe he'll get a WC for Munich again and also Halle, but I don't expect him to get one for Hamburg.

I don't care how's the shape of Rainer right now. He gave german tennis results that Waske, Berrer, Burgsmuller, Zverev, Phau and the other journeymen didn't give Germany all together.

It would be craziness just abandon a player just because he isn't in good shape right now. A player that made Germany proud for quite few years.

Xavier Malisse is also in doubt for Hamburg.

"During a training session this monday he felt again pain in his wrist. The revalidation doesn't go as easily as planned. It may lead to an operation, but it ain't certain that that will solve the problem.", said his brother Olivier.

Xavier's appearance in Hamburg is uncertain, so is his showing up at Roland Garros

According to d p a news agency he isn't yet officially out:

I think Tommy is in deep shit because skipping Hamburg Masters.
I think Tommy hadn´t had any hopes anyway in clay period because Tommy
is so bad in clay.
The most important thing now is that Tommy plays French Open and success
OK in there because doing well there would summit all clay court tournaments
played since Paris GS.
Tommy should get at least to 4th Round. QF would be better.

Tommy should also do well in Wimbledon and US Masters events and US tour
to get to the Masters. Tommy should not rest from Wimbledon to US Open at all and do well to get to the Masters Cup and finishing with Top 8 this season.
Tommy usually is so lazy in the latter part of the season. He usually skips the Asian Tour.

I think Kiefer´s career in ruined but I hope the shoulder injury isn´t bad for Tommy.

This is very sad that only German hope in Hamburg is Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Wild Card should be given to young German future talents like Bachinger,
Beck.
It would be waste of Wild card to give it to Schuettler.

ZackBusner
05-10-2007, 12:43 PM
The remaining Wild Cards go to Waske and Schüttler. Haas and Nalbandian are out.

To get that SE you have to play at another tournament of the same level on saturday. So Volandri is the only player who can get it. (If he beats Berdych in Rome.) If Volandri loses Henman will get in (because he is the highest ranked player on the alternates list)

I'd say yes.
According to ATP rulebook (http://www.atptennis.com/en/players/ATP_Rulebook2007.pdf) (page 70) you get the SE if you are still playing another tournament of the same level when qualifying begins. There is no other condition mentioned.

What a waste of WC to give it to Schuettler. I´m so disappointed!

The tournament director said the WC is a reverence to Schuettler for his merits and outstanding services to German tennis. (Sound like a funeral address :p)

(And well, with Kiefer and now also Haas missing, Schuettler is the only German player casual fans have ever heard of... So the tournament needs his name to attract the crowd)
