The draw for Djokovic has really opened up. I think he merits being on there more than Gasquet or Nalby. Don't exepct Canas to be able to win a Masters so soon. And definately Haas deserves to be on the list.

Go Murray!

I voted other, Haas has played the best tennis the last month or so.

But...

it's not a matter of playing good tennis, it's a matter of dealing with the sudden mindshift to have a realistic chance of winning a Masters. And we all know what happened the last couple of times Fed wasn't in the tournament: every seed got nervous and lost early on. Looking for more upsets today.

My pick for this tournament would be Nadal. I actually expected him to win, crazy enough as it sounds even if Fed, Berdych, and Youzhny didn't go out. He's getting better at playing aggressive, sure his game slipped but he's growing into the player he's got to be to win on HC. After Nadal, I would say James Blake has a great opportunity to win his first ms title, if he makes it to the final and plays Rafa obviously he would be favored, it's just James hasn't been playing well lately and he would have to beat some quality guys to make it to the final. Guys like Gonzo/Hass, Murray, or Djockvic who clearly have the games to beat Blake. A conservative pick for this tournament's champion would be Andy Roddick, he's playing great and if he serves over 70% there only one man in the world in my eyes that can beat him. The only problem with Roddick is if his serve, or his confidence has an off day, than he can be made to look rather silly by even most lower ranked opponents. I think a dark horse pick for this tournament would be Gasquet, he's actually who I selected in the poll. If he plays the way he did against Del Potro, I certainly think he can beat Roddick, but will he be able to beat Nadal?

To summarize: I like Nadal for the title. James Blake is my second pick. Andy Roddick is the ultra conservative pick for the title looking at present form. My dark horse would be Richard Gasquet.

MaryWalsh
03-12-2007, 04:55 PM
I pick Nadal. I posted earlier that I thought his biggest threats would be Youzhny and Berdych. I think he has a stronger mental game than Roddick and they have utterly opposite approaches to pacing, which disturbs A-Rod more than Nadal. Never crossed my mind that Fed would be out of the top half. I would now give it to Murray.

If it is a Nadal/Murray final it is very likely going to be a battle of epic proportions!

FluffyYellowBall
03-12-2007, 05:42 PM
Probably Nadal. He SHOULD get to the final at least with a draw like that and with al his rivals out, including Federer, its his best shot at gaining confidence.

it all goes down to few factors
- Haas is playing awesome but he has hard matches against Gonzo and then Murray/Davydenko
- Davydenko no way it would be choke Davy is one-TMS-wonder
- Murray could win but I think it would be hard for him , temp are killing in IW and he is still suspect in fitnees issues, he can go far but Davydenko, Haas/Gozo, Djokovic could truouble him
- Roddick also has hard draw, Nadal, Ljubo/Nlaby, Gasquet
- Nadal is the safest bet if he wins with Roddick he could with with anyone else in draw,

Djokovic has to have a right good chance now with Blake and Fed biting it early. He's got to be a stick on for the semi now anyway and the other quarter is a slugfest so he should be fresher than the guy who finally emerges out that side. He has a good chance - although I would fancy both Nadal and Roddick to beat him in the final if they got there.
