Mighty Fed vs fighter Cañas... what type of match will it be?

Your opinion. Since it's almost sure Fed will win the poll options are a bit different than usual.

H2H is 1-1. Willy def. Fed on his way to his memorable Toronto title in 2002. Fed def Willy 6-3 6-1 two years ago on IW.

Edit: sorry about typos in poll

I wouldn't call it "the upset of the century" if Canas wins. Federer losing to Berdych in Athens for example was a much bigger upset.

Option 3 in my opinion, Federer will win but not before working his ass off on the court.

Option 2 for me. Federer will win 6-2 / 6-3 or something like this.

A tricky first day at the office for Roger but I would like Willy's chances more in a first round in Montecarlo.

option 3 for me, rogelio in 2 close sets

Canas like other grinders such as Ferrer and Robredo will be food and drink for Federer.

Accounting for his usual 1st round wobbles, it will probably be 7-6, 6-4 or something along them lines.

Ferrer and Robredo do not have the speed and defensive skills of a Nadal. If you are going to defend against Federer you need to be as good as Nadal.

And if you're going to attack against Federer you need to be as good as... Federer.

Roger in 2 EASY sets. How many times must he prove this? He steps it up against the big name players who happen to be in good form. Remember Haas and Gonzales? Doesn't matter that this is a first round, he's going to be zoned in right away and Canas isn't going to be able to do a thing.

What sort of a question is this? What sort of match will this be? An extremely boring, one sided match from Federer like usual, I mean what else is new.

I guess Fed struggles a little bit, but the scores will deny to reflect it.
Straight sets win by FED with about one break game each.

Fed cant win every match he plays, perfect time for Fed too go is first round as he improves in each round and is virtualy imposible to beat later on in a tournement.

Stranger things have happend, with the never say die attitude of Willy it is possible he can win. (too bad IW isnt on clay :p)

Well Canas has recently won a tournament so he can find his way around the court. Rogi will have to take him seriously. Thankfully Dubai wasn't so long ago, so he shouldn't be that rusty :yeah:

Canas just shouldn't be able to play at all, simple as that.

I love to see Roger having troubles in winning some "won" matches. I think Rogers loves sometimes to be in trouble to win this kind of compromises. He´ll manage even to lose a set. I´ve seen him dropping some games in order to maintain the "inner equilibrium" and the overall aesthetics of tennis itself. As in Shanghai against Blake, there will be some gracious gifts by the Emperor. I don´t see any grinding happening.

I think Fed will probably win in 2 sets like 6/2 6/3, but watch out

Cañas might play his best (he is hungry of tennis) and if Fed isn't regular he can have some trouble

I went for option 3, 3 setter, predict Willy will win a TB set.

Cañas should have got a 3-6 mounths max suspention. instead he spent a year and half out of the courts. talking about fairness by the Atp. think about kubek situation.

In all tournaments, first matches for Roger aren't easy (remember Dubai against Pless ), but I think Roger 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

Even with his slow starts, it's an easy match-up for Federer.

6-4 6-3

I think Fed will win in straight sets but w/ a close score like 7-6, 6-4. For some reason he always play ''badly'' in the first rounds.

Then again you wonder whether he would have come back with the same hunger for glory (and therefore, whether he would have made such an amazing comeback), had he been suspended only for a few months.

everything Cañas said to the Atp on tv -almost crying- and newspapers from the beginning -before the suspension- was latter proved to be true after they had given him 2 years. that's a joke ATP is a joke they didn't care to find out at the time. It's not that the ATP said: ´hey poor Cañas, lets shorten his suspention´.
You can't expect people to understand it. Its ATP fault Cañas' image is ruined. People are 'right' to make comments in this sense.

Now, those who still think Cañas is gilty, why don't blame the Atp for having shortened his suspention? Better yet, those who do think Atp is a joke for having shortened his suspention, what assure you ATP wasn't a joke back then when they actually gave Cañas the 2 years

It wasn't the ATP who shortened his suspension, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Cañas was given the wrong medicine by Acapulco staff, and he got his name cleaned after the appeal.

The ATP sucks, and its good that since the start of 2006 the ITF is the one that manages the anti doping programme.
