There's maybe 2 or 3 upsets there, the rest were expected which kind of indicates the state of mens tennis in the US.

Deboogle!.

There's maybe 2 or 3 upsets there, the rest were expected ...Exactly. And several of them are younger (a couple local boys I've never even heard of) and/or not really all that talented and were never expected to do much anyway.

The only one of those losses that surprises me is Amer's, but he's always had mental problems and I think he's still getting used to the idea that he's a top 100 player now and he's supposed to win certain matches.

Now they have two top 10 and 10 top 100.

They are not that bad.

Australia and Sweden on the other hand...

well, but US always has top players and good normal players

now they have only Roddick and Blake as top players, then Fish and Ginepri in top 50... after that... only MM level players or challenger players

im waiting for Sam Querrey as other american hope

it's not a good moment for US tennis

The only one of those losses that surprises me is Amer's

I think that Sweeting's result is surprising. Especially the score. I think he's a much more talented player than Zib. But, he's also very up and down.

Most of the Americans in the draw were either futures or challengers players... solid but not spectacular. Many of the really good Americans are in the main draw by DA or WC.

Still, it's a bit disheartening that it doesn't appear as though we have many up and coming Americans these days, especially when we used to have so very many top Americans in the days of McEnroe and such. Oh well.
