Who will roast Rafa in IW?

Other than these 3 I can't see anyone capable of a roasting this week :p

Oops, the draw confused me...

So add Roddick to the list, and pretend it's Youzhny (R16), Berdych (QF), Roddick (SF) or Federer (F)

MissPovaFan

Nadal has to come good soon so I'd say he will make it to Federer...before losing.

Safin?

Edit: Ooh, wait, the draw's out? 'Bout time. *checks*
Edit2: Yep, definitely Safin (F).

Not a bad combo :D

If Misha can now recover after making two finals in a row I can definitely see him making it into the round of 16 and of course he has the confidence.

I would like Berdych to do his part and make the quarters just as back up though.

Would be a nice match to see. But I fear Guga`s chances are slim.

But you guys are missing a fundamental law of tennis: if Nalby, Roddick and Rafa are on the same side of the draw, two of them will always lose early ...

I wouldnt say brutal. I would say fair. Both have tough opponents in front of them. It happens that on hard courts Rafa is more vulnerable. If this was a clay tournament, I bet that there wouldnt be a "brutal" draw to Rafa.

Verdasco has the game to beat him but not the mind. As for Youzhny, it'll be asking too much of him to beat Nadal 3 times in a row. I suspect Nadal will die on court than grant him another win. Berdych won't make it that far. So it's Roddick who will do the honours.

sar·casm /ˈsɑrkæzəm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[sahr-kaz-uhm] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

No need to panic. I think most people are by now acclimatized to the plethora of dogmatic, egocentric and illogical posts that synthesize the pandemonium known as MTF. However sometimes this cacophony can generate substantial psychological trauma if prophylactic measures are not taken.

Do all or most all of your post some how or another bring rafa into a convo that has nothing to do with him just to insult him. Do you troll patrol the board for threads about him, don't add any constructive criticism, but find the need to bash him for no reason other than that it gives you pleasure.

So, no one of the last 8 keeps possitive H2H against Rafa and none of them has beaten Rafa twice! Brilliant work! :haha:

It happens to everyone (except me, since I never make any predictions. I'm a firm believer in the theory of chaos so that just doesn't get along with predicting anything).

For example, it happened to you in Dubai, when you said not only that Nadal will win it, but also not even losing a set. And then didn't understand why I thought it was rather funny.

So, if you want to know EXACTLY HOW Rogiman feels, try this: remember how you felt that time when Rafa lost to Misha. Read my words... your eyes are closing. Time is flowing back... days, weeks... it's Thursday afternoon now, 1st of March, about 6:30 PM Mean Greenwich Time. Through the mist, you see Nadal on the court...looks sexy as always... OMG he just saved the 7th MP of Youzhny with an amazing passing shot picked up 2 milimeters above the ground, and some ten yards behind the baseline   - you feel that Rafa is not done yet... will Misha just crack after so many wasted MPs? It's not like he never did that... and Rafa is a fighter... you still hope he will pull a win after all. But then, just a minute later, its OVER!! Arggh, shit, how is this possible, why, it can't be... you are going berzerk, you want to reload your previously saved position and replay this part... but damn, this is not a computer game, it's reality... then, after you chill down for a few minutes, you log on to MTF... you know all the Rafa haters will gloat their asses off and you don't actually want to read all that stuff but something just doesn't let you go, and you must open those threads... and look, those bastards really don't hold themselves back, it's disgusting, see what nasty things they say about your Rafa, you wish they all die and go to hell... (I'm losing inspiration here already) ...
- THAT's how he feels. Now you know.

Look, I know you say this only to rile up IL here, but still...

Q. What was the key point to change the match?

RAFAEL NADAL: The public's support, the crowd. Elsewhere in the world, it would have been impossible to defeat Ljubicic. Thanks to them, I won this final. Now I want to believe in myself a little more also.

So, Rafael Nadal himself knows it wouldn't be possible without the crowd, but YOU know better. Rafa is an idiot then I guess? Or a PR expert, and a lying bastard? He actually thought Ljubo had no chance but said the above obvious bullshit only to gain sympathy from people?

Sheesh.

Yada yada yada, just answer the simple question: did home crowd help Rafa in that match, or did it not? It's a simple yes/no question.

FluffyYellowBall mentioned that help in a sarcastic way, so I guess the answer would be 'no', but I'd like to see it black on white, for future reference.

it is obvious that Crowd helped Rafa but it didn't matter because if it wasn't held in his country he wouldn't showd up being injured , he just showed how big his heart is raising his level etc, he was just better player at the end of the match

What is your deal, of course the crowd helped him. the same way any crowd helps any tennis player. Or a crowd helps their basketball team win by waving little white fluffy foam things to distract the other team when making free throws. What's your point, Rafa obviously won, is the crowd all of a sudden a way to cheat?

What does it mean, that he was the better player in the match?

If you define 'the better player' as 'the one who wins' then of course. It's a tautology then (if you know what that is?). Then you can easily say that the better player on any given day ALWAYS wins.

But, in my vocabulary, it definitely is not the case. The better player on the day most certainly doesn't ALWAYS win. Because every competitive sport contains the element of chance - and a lot of other weird factors, but the chance itself is enough to maintain that it is quite possible to play 'better' - but still lose.

So what does all of this mean? That I think Nadal didn't deserve to win? Most certainly that is not what I'm saying: because Nadal won it fair and square, within the rules of the game. It is not forbidden to win a match using positive vibrations from the crowd who cheers for you, while it distracts your opponent whistling between serves and whatnot. I personaly find it distasteful, but it's neither Nadal's fault nor it is relevant. Many sports are subject to things like that, tennis is actually remarkable free of that most of the time.

No, it's the other thing that really pisses me off in this situation. Here we have a match which ended 7-5 in the tiebreaker of the 5th set. It was about as friggin' close as it can get, and if anyone can conclude ANYTHING from that match, it's that their level was about the same in that match. But what are people here doing? Counting that win as an argument that Ljubo is Nadal's bitch? Ok, you withdrew that comment which is nice from you, but people generally use that match as a proof that Ljubo 'can't even beat Nadal on his favourite surface'. That's pure BS, as that match certainly does not prove anything similar. A couple of balls here and there and it could have been a straight setter for Ljubo. It wasn't meant to be, but to say he just CAN'T beat him on HC - based on that match - is a complete and utter nonsense.

well I don't know who called ljubo nadal's bitch and I won't go back and read. But I don't know why people are acting like it's some big thing that nadal beat some one in the 5th (if that's what happen) like it's some huge surprise, he usaully wins in the 5th. His mental strenght is what gets him through matches where his opponent might have possibly outplayed him. And this is news to who?

Don't remind me of that, any time I see it I want to smash my TV to little pieces. Distasteful, disgusting, total disgrace to the sports in the Ancient Greek's (Olympic) sense of the word.
Sports should be about giving your best, not seeking ways to stop your opponent of doing his best (except of course, when it's part of the game itself; but waving those things is definitely not a part of the game of basketball)

Read my answer to Loremaster.

I did, it answered my question  but with basketball and the little fluffy things, I thinks it's completely fair. That is the way Pro b-ball is played. If a player can't handle a crowd watching them play and the distractions that go along with it, then they don't need to play in front of a crowd.

Now that being said, I did grow up watching those sports and not tennis, so I think I'm a little more inclined to the way the game is played with those particular sports. Hence why I don't get a lot of the uproar about a lot of things some consider changing about tennis. For instance when people get all upset with the crowd getting behind their fav player and people calling it disrespectful.

I understand that that is the way tennis has been set up to be played, and other sports were not. So if some one can't cut it with the distractions then they don't need to be playing those sports. The same that I now understand that tennis was set up to eliminate those distractions for their players, it's just the way the different sports are played. I can honestly say that I respect the mind of a b-balling maybe a little more because you do have to work through those obstacles where in tennis it seems the biggest obstacle a lot of times are themselves.

Disagreed. Those fluffy things cross the line in my, not so humble, opinion. You could as well claim that they should play while someone sprays water on them (or throws rotten tomatoes on them  ) as means of distraction, and that they, as pros, should be able to deal with it, or quit playing.

Waving those things isn't something human brain can just disregard, unlike the sound. For example most people can fall asleep in a train, with quite a lot of noise from the engine, the wind and the rails (and even the whistle). We are simply naturally capable of ignoring some sorts of sounds. But sleeping while the sun shines directly in your face is alot harder. Visible distractions are far worse than audible ones (unless the sound is really loud, sharp and sudden, like a scream or gun shot or such)

But all this is less important than the very psychology of such behaviour. Here we have a bunch of jackasses who don't content with cheering for their teams and being happy if they win or sad if they lose, but actively seek ways to disrupt the game of the opposing team. It's just a total disgrace to the spirit of competing. That's one thing I always liked about tennis: when the point begins, the crowd is supposed to keep their mouths shut and stay still.
