Relatively entertaining match.... but one can't help think how things would be different if Melzer only had a brain

This win also means he'll stay in the top 20 this week, Im not sure how long it is now but I remember someone one here saying it was quite a while about two weeks ago.

Hewitt showed his grit and determination in the 2nd set and it looked like the old hewitt, coming back from 3-0 down and saving 4 set points, but i thought jurgen really should of taken it to a 3rd and he looked absolutely gutted at the end of the match.

Yes, he did. :)

Nice one, Lleyton. :yeah:

But did they show someone else apart from his wife, like his coach for example? It started to annoy me after some time, but maybe I am just jealous. :D

well done hewitt. he hasn't played much the past 2 years so he is relatively fresh! most of the tour looked burnt out...

He doesn't have a coach - personally I'd rather see Bec anyway ;) :D

Well Done Lleyton on a great week :worship:

Really crucial he defended his points from last year and now he can try and have a good run at IW or Miami. Main thing is, he has to stay fit so he can have a solid clay court season where there is barely any points to defend.

I'm glad Hewitt won. I hope his ranking improves. Tournaments are more interesting if he's in the mix. I find it much, much easier to root for him now that he's had some turbulent years.

The last time Hewitt was ranked outside of the top 20 was during the first week of 2000 which was 371 weeks ago. He has been number 20 in the world several times since then, but never ranked below that.

Sampras was in the top for 657 weeks in a row. The run started in the summer of 1990 and lasted all the way through his playing days and even after he retired as he had enough poitns to keep him in the top 20 for about 6 months after his retirement.

That's great, winning title will boost his confidence , If he won't draw Federer or Roddick in first rounds he should have good run, he loves to play on hardcourt I hope he will improve his ranking to end up in Top8 , he has almost nothing to defend for rest of the season (Wimby QF and Quenns ) so I think that if he plays more and doesn't injury himslef he will play better and better

The longest winning tie-break for Hewitt in his career. He played twice longer TB's but both of them lost to Canas (12:14 & 13:15) :D

Well done Lleyton :woohoo: Great to see him get that 10 year title streak. I hope Lleyton just gets an injury free season and a chance to really get back up the rankings and challenge everyone again when fully fit.

Nice job getting to a final, not disappointed because I didn't expect a victory. But...seriously, when you've got set points... you shouldn't be so complacent. Is that the word I'm after? Anyway...a final! Woot!

I don't think you mean complacent. I think you mean passive, however, complacent does make sense in this context so you may be correct. Complacent means he shouldn't have 'assumed he'd win the set'. Passive means he shouldn't have played the points so negatively.
