Congrats Chela, he was the better player today.

Although, one must say, not the most convincing title considering the way he won his SF match.

Well done Juan.

Got lucky with his semi-final result but made the most of his opportunity, which is all you can do.

quite high quality match

Except for Moya´s 2 df´s in the tie break, one was like one of those hideous df´s you only see in women tennis, where the ball does not even fall inside the court

Chubby Chubby Chela, Chubby Chubby Chela, Chubby Chubby Chela we love you,
Chubby Chubby Chela, Chubby Chubby Chela, Chubby Chubby Chela what you'll do!

Actually come to think of it, it's ironic that RR has been criticised for its potential to let a player lose a match and win a title (and deservedly so), but here's Chela getting very fortunate indeed in yesterday's match and going on to take the whole thing.

Both Carlos and his girlfriend lost today in Acapulco.
At least they have each other.

what the hell was that 2nd serve on the first double fault in the tb? I'd call it the worst serve I've ever seen but I don't know where the ball went.

They've both won their respective team competitions as well, although I don't think Flavia was at the DC in Seville as Moya was in Belgium for Fed Cup last year.

Nah, I think his head to head against Massu is 6-1
They always play long matches but Chela somehow wins at the end.

It is true that he wonly won because Calleri got injured, Calleri was killing him yesterday.

Congrats Chubby Chela for winning the title and he took advantage of Calleri's misfortune and made the best of it.

Nice to see that he thanked Calleri at the ceremony and probably should buy him a few tequilas in the process.

From ATP site

"It was the third straight week that an Argentine won an ATP title -- Guillermo Canas (Costa do Sauipe) and Juan Monaco (Buenos Aires). The last time three different Argentines won consecutive titles was in 2002: Chela in Amersfoort, Jose Acasuso in Sopot and Guillermo Canas in Toronto."

It's funny that in MTF they call him Chubby Chela and in Argentina they call him 'Flaco' and they call Calleri 'El Gordo'. Well anyways enough for trivial info. Nice win by Chela, and Carlos it's the time to stop losing finals although he's been doing quite good this year!

There is a certain amount of irony behind the 'Chubby' nickname. ;)

IMO, he is the most ironic af all the Arg. players. I personally like a lot his sense of humor. And despite of the image he has got in MTF and part of the international press, he is very calmed and doesn´t lose his mind on court. What happened with Hewitt is very unusual in him, and I would expect that from most of the Argentine players, except him and Chucho probably... I never watched that match completely, but it must have been quite something for him to do that.
Just in case: I´m not excusing him, I´m just saying I was surprised to see that ;) :p

Whatever..., congrats to Chela and his fans. :) 3 of 4 SA titles won by ARG players. I personally like that :p although some of my faves didn´t do that well.

He's the only Argentine player I happened to see several times. He seems a very nice guy, he's always sorrounded by kids and he looks very patient with them. Compared to other Argentine players, I think he's one of the nicest with his fans.

Yes, I remember when he played Hewitt again at the AO after the incident. I was watching him train and he had quite a few people come up to him and wished him to beat Hewitt. He was quite happy to pose for photos and spoke to fans and it didn't seem like a chore.
