Novak's draw section....

Djokovic v bye
Ginepri v Kendrick
Korolev v Greul
Tursuov v bye

Melzer v bye
Monfils v Benneteau
Pless v Serra
Blake v bye

This is the bottom half of Roger's quarter.

Tough draw :(

Tursunov hasn't played since the AO so hopefully he might be rusty. And apparently, Blake was having wrist problems in Las Vegas last week...

ezekiel

very tough draw , he is in the same quarter as Federer and Blake
1r-bye
2r-Ginepri
3r-Tursunov
4r-Blake
QF-Federer

Other than Roger in the quarters, it's a nice draw.

Other than Roger in the quarters, it's a nice draw.

If Tursunov and Blake play well, it'll be tough but both have been injured recently and haven't been in top form so we'll see....

uglyamerican
03-06-2007, 09:39 PM
Tursunov is used to playing every week, so I don't think he'll be in good form. I think Novak would be the favorite against even a healthy Blake. That's a good match-up for Nole.

The tricky one is Korolev.

ezekiel
03-06-2007, 09:45 PM
Blake is very tough on hard courts and may be too much if he is on. But look at all the others, Ginepri and Tursunov are very tough too. Nole certainly has his work cut out for him

No defensive experts in the mix, though. That's who always concern me.

I don't think Gineprick will pose a problem. Tursunov and Blake might be tough but like we've said, Tursunov probably won't be in good form and Blake lost to Korolev easily last week.

Tursunov has not played since the AO. Actually he probably won't play at all. He's probably waiting for the very last moment to see how his wrist will be :o

and I agree Korolev will be the tricky one. he'll have extra motivation after what happened in Vegas.

Not bad prospect of Novak on American TV. If he gets to Blake, that should be on TV. Fed/Nole would definetly be on TV, again.

My spies in Indian Wells told me this story about dear Novak playing a practice match with Andy Roddick on Friday:

It was really really cute. They were both into it and stuff. At the end, Novak asked John Roddick to take a picture of Novak and (what I assumed was) his coach, and Andy and Jimmy. Novak looked really happy to have the opportunity to hit a couple balls with Jimmy. And you would be so proud of how Amber and I explained to all the people around us who novak was. They were like "I wonder how much they had to pay that guy to hit with Roddick" and we would turn around and explain that he is in the top 20 and stuff

Slow-start Novak is playing today.

It seems like it's been a bit of a struggle. First set to Novak 6-3.

Second set is going better 5-1.

GSM Novak 6-3, 6-1 Novak saved 10/11 bps.

Nice victory , it's a sign of progress when he beats a finesse player that defeated him before

And yes it's very interesting how Murray shadows him and people talk about it in GM . I give edge to Nole to separate himself soon enough

Murray won't pick up many points between Miami and Queen's Club. It's almost dirt time.

Emotional Djokovic storms into quarters

INDIAN WELLS - When Novak Djokovic won his match against Julien Benneteau on Wednesday at the Pacific Life Open, he belted out a cry of victory.
Someone had to break the silence in the nearly empty Stadium 2.
The virtual unknown  from Serbia has been making noise since he turned pro in 2003, moving up quickly in the ranks to his current No. 13 spot.

His 6-1, 6-3 victory over Benneteau, who eliminated James Blake on Monday, was yet another impressive outing by Djokovic.

He now moves on to the quarterfinals against David Ferrer on Friday.

"I know there are a lot of expectations of me as one of the up-and-coming young players," Djokovic said. "I think I should just stay focused on my game. My goal for this year is to reach the top 10."

Djokovic lost to Benneteau in the first round of last year's Pac-Life, but much has changed since then.

After hiring former ATP pro Marian Vajda as his coach in June 2006, Djokovic won his first career title at Amersfoort a month later and leapfrogged to a No. 16 ranking by the end of the year.

"I can't say that I expected everything, but always I believed in myself," Djokovic said. "I try not to think too much about the rankings, points, because I know results will come if I stay focused with what I do."

The Serbian is not shy about demonstrating his passion for the game.
"I try to hold my emotions back as much as I can, but that's me," Djokovic said. "I like to scream on the court because I'm a big competitor. I like to fight, I like the game. I'm a pretty emotional player."

That's the main show court. I ran into many knowledgeable tennis fans in all the other courts during my 2 days there. Of course, those fans know the first 2 rounds of competition are the best. ;)

Before the start of Nadal/Clement match in stadium 1, there's a teenage girl screamed out "I Love You Nadal" and right then, cut down my interest in watching the match by half. And then having all those young voices calling Nadal, I had to leave after 1st set. :p

The people are all 90000000 years old. Only Deb and her gang from LA know what is going on.

How about the one from Scottsdale? :p

Indian Wells and the surrounding places like Palm Springs, Palm Desert, etc are mainly retirement communities and mostly only those people have pockets deep enough for the seats where you can see from TV.

Although my city is hundreds miles away, the climate is basically the same. We have broken the record high temperatures for the last 2 days and it's going to get hotter today and tomorrow. It's true. Those upcoming shows are the kind of filler they put in so that no-one will complain if it gets pre-empted.

Earlier in the week the stayed with a women's match even though it was supposed to be a basketball game. With all the time tennis coverage has been delayed by women's basketball and Little League, it was fun to screw over someone else for a change.
