Very nice result for Misha.

I think Youzhny is the easier of the potential QFs for Nadal purely from the amount of tennis he's played - he has to start feeling a bit tired soon, you feel.

Did very well to handle Berdych in straight sets though.

Berdych continues to unimpress.

continues his incredible form

I was expecting Berman to go through this time but Mischa seems to not get tired at all

Nadal or Andreev next

Youzhny is really playing at best level lately... He played two SFs and won a title this year and still plays great
Berdych :smash:

Well, I kind of expected this victory for Youzhny, but not that easy! :worship:

Misha is in great form, here he showed it again. I expect a tough match for Raf coming Thursday - will be interesting!

I definately predicted this one wrong, I was also expecting tiredness concerning Misha but I'm glad he proved me wrong. I hope he gets to meet Nadal in this form, that should make for an interesting match.

Youzhny has been at least in the QFs of every tournament he's played this year (except AO where he was unlucky to meed Federer in 3d round)

Did anyone see this match? ES2 showed Haas vs. Serra...

Anyway, seems Misha is really on fire... not sure if this win is good news for Nadal; Misha can catch so many balls on HC it's incredible.

I give Nadal the edge as Youzhny is very tired, thats why I think berdych going through would of been better as at least Nadal had a good chance of losing.

non-stop Misha :rocker2:

He had many points to defend this week but doesn't give up after winning a title :)

Mickael is in great form. I expected this result. A good record against youngsters lately (Nadal, Djokovic, Berdych). :yeah:

Tomas didn't come into this tournament with the best of attitudes. :p

Maybe they want to go on some tour, like go to the desert, so that’s going to be also something interesting. I’ve never been there, so if I can – maybe if I’m going to be out of the tournament – then maybe I can spend some time there.

Another anti-fan. ;) Meaning- rooting for who you hope has the best possiblity to eliminate a player you don't like instead of watching the match and appreciating the current players/ winner involved. You and RonE can keep each other company with that type of anti-cheering. :p

Congrats to Misha. :) He has been in the zone lately and I have been very happy to see him have great results. I would not brush him aside yet in the quarters for when he meets Rafa or Igor. I thought he would be too tired here, but he proved me wrong.

Byrd I totally disagree. Berdych - Nadal would have been much less interesting than Misha - Nadal. Rotterdam title has given Youzhny the confidence he's needed so desperately and with God's help to scare off injuries that boy can show some magnificent perfomance against anyone, including Rafa ;)

But let's not get ahead of ouselves...Rafa still has Igor to beat ;)

When *does* Berdych come into a tournament with a good attitude, I wonder...?

I'm not so surprised. Berdych losing a set against Al Ghareeb was a first step, now we got a final one

^^ My thoughts exactly. Youznhy in this form will surely be able to give Raf a few problems I think!

RonE

I fail to see how Nadal having to face Youzhny instead of Berdych (provided he gets past Andreev, of course) suddenly turns his draw into a cakewalk when Misha beat him pretty convincingly the last time they met on hard courts, but whatever.

Because Misha reached a pinnacle performance he rarely reaches on that occassion and has lost to Nadal on most other occassons whereas Berdych has shown on hardcourts at least that he can consistently beat Nadal.

I would disagree with Glenn that it has become a cupcake draw but deep down I am sure Rafa would much rather have to face Youzhny than Berdych.

It was a bad omen when Tomas expressed his wish to visit the desert if he lost early in the tournament :tape: It was again a close match, a different result in the tiebreak and who knows what would have happened. Youzhny is on career best form, hopefully he can keep this level up.

7 straight matches and a 16-4 record to the season already. :D

I don't think Nadal fans should be so happy about Youzhny beating Berdych; I think Misha will give him the tougher match and possibly another upset.

I think this is also a good sign that Misha can consistently beat the up-and-coming youngsters on tour, who really don't have more talent than he does. He has just taken longer to develop it.

Nadal is one lucky SOB :(

Okay, even if I were trying to be drinking the I hate Nadal haterade- I fail to see how having to play Misha makes one lucky.

Youzhny has been playing very well for the most of 2007. To me the most impressive players have been Feds, Haas, Gonzalez (not counting Vina and first round of DC) and Misha. Tomas has not been that impressive, at least imo, and imo Misha has looked like the more complete player.

I think if Tomas came in from a shakey win against Misha- he could have been ripe for the (finally in his mind) picking from Rafa. But Misha has been playing very well. And although people keep citing fatigue as a factor- so far, it has not come to pass.

Imo, Misha is a player with real talent who maybe, finally, is realizing it outside of his famous DC performance. He has the groundstrokes and the smarts. I just wish people would quit dissing him because they want to see Nadal lose.

I think Misha could pull of the QF win.

The Colonel plays well in Dubai, the last 4 years including this one are 2 SFs and 2 QFs, perhaps he can make that 3 semis.
