Well, so much for the a turning point. Lleyton should be really, really ashamed of himself for his play at this tournament and at IW. He'll never get his ranking back up to the top ten this way. He needs to play more tournaments and play better. How can he expect to compete with the top 5 and do well at slams when he can't even get past Chela or Pavel?? I can't remember the last time I was so disgusted with him.

Hewitt changed his game to a more offensive style and now makes more errors. Just like Chang did and that was not a good move on his part. Hewitt's game is defense and counterpunching. That is how he got the most out of his career. Hewitt was never good enough game wise to be number one, again Guga's hip injury best thing to happen to his career. Pavel and Chela aren't bad players still this is a shocking loss. Still he has 2 titles this year in the can so its not too bad. There is always the grass season and his clay season shouldn't be too bad.

I want Daniela to win because she needs a good victory, although how can I root against Venus?

I have a problem with this country in that Venus & Serena are not considered Americans but as some others to actively root against. I say that because of people I meet who say they can't stand them and lost interest in tennis because they kept "winning everything" Although some of their poster fans are annoying.

I understand what you meant. What I was saying is that race has absolutely nothing to do with whether I like them or not, either mine OR theirs.

By hype I did not mean that they get more attention than their results deserve (and by the way, they get way more attention than Andy does from what I've seen - they get scheduled better for live TV coverage than he does, etc. Maybe only Andre gets more attention than they do). I meant that I'm just sick of hearing about them. It was really tiring to hear everyone and their brother say that women's tennis was like horrible without them around. I thought it was disgusting that people said that the people who won slams in their absence would have to have stars next to their (well as it turns out, her) name (even though I like Justine even less than I like Venus and Serena, her slams are worth just as much as anyone who wins and beats a Williams or two along the way).

Ultimately, I have to be excited by the players I watch, that's what makes someone a fave of mine. People like Andy and Lleyton and Mark and Pete and Guille and Younes and all my other faves, all for different reasons of course, excite me. Venus and Serena just don't excite me at all, plus on top of it I have to hear about them all the time. If that's the same reason that you don't like Andy, then you shouldn't really be questioning me, no?

That's not true. By and large I don't like women's tennis nearly as much as men's. But there are a few players I enjoy very much, especially Kim but also Lindsay, Monica, JCap, and I also really liked Martina.

and TF, not everyone defines hype the same as you do. For me it is not connected to results, just purely amount of attention. I think Andre is hyped a lot as well and obviously he, by your standards, would "deserve" it more than anyone still currently playing. And for the record, the amount of attention Andy gets bothers me as well, before I get called a hypocrite.

Just one more thing, I never hear this. Just the opposite.

However, women's tennis was bad the period in 94-96 when Monica was out Steffi had no reliable nemesis and the talented teens (Martina Hingis, Kournikova and the Sisters) had yet to appear.

I still don't get all this hype about that damn March Madness in the USA. Who wants to see college kids playing basketball?

You gotta be kidding me, what's so interesting about that?

:banghead: :banghead:

hell if I know! LOL!!!

though I'm sure it's exciting if you're at one of the schools. My little school won the baseball version last summer, and I hate baseball but it was still soooooo exciting and I did watch every game our team played. So  I dunno but almost every guy I know here has bet on it in some fashion and you have to avoid all the restaurants that play sports on tv because it's too busy of drunk men LOL
