bunk, okay... point taken if your team from your school competes in this tournament or in this league... that's a normal thing that these games are interesting then.
But I've heard that this is a big NATIONAL event and people are spending millions or billions of cash for betting on these games, on nationwide TV and everything.

Well, okay... at least me, as German, I don't understand it *g*
have your fun, college basketball lovers :)

March Madness is hella fun if you are in a betting pool. I used to be way into it.

I've always loved college basketball. I grew up with basketball being the most loved sport. We had a hoop in our yard just like everyother house and we shot HORSE. Everybody was crazy about basketball. :)

I don't get it either. Canadians follow it too, which even further boggles the mind. Canadians also follow Junior Hockey religiously, though. After that, nothing should surprise me.

Yeah, I mean it's crazy here. Whenever I turn to a sports channels that are showing match summaries, it's hockey. On the other hand, I never saw any highlights of Tennis in finals and what not. Lucky my only gym class during my high school years was taught by a rugby fan...

I don't know, since no one is watching it on TV, but I have to think Roger is nowhere near 100% physically, I mean, even though Nadal is serving spectacular, it only helps him to hold serve, but for him to break Roger twice, either he is playing really good, or something is seriously wrong with Roger.. :(

I just hope he gets better now, who cares if he lose this match...

asotgod
03-29-2004, 01:59 AM
Nadal is serving well. Over 84% first serves and believe u me, a lefty serve is hard to pick up. It has more spins than normal. Federer just needs to weather this phase and try to get rhythm. He seems not to be getting any rhythm.

You know, if Nadal does win this, it's an HISTORIC match we are witnessing (or at least, kind of witnessing... ;) ). Could be a defining breakthrough match for a future great.

I think so too. Everyone is talking SO much about Nadal being the next great one. When someone asked Todd Martin about the future of tennis he said, "Nadal. Nadal. Nadal."

I guess... maybe I'm not that blown away b/c we knew Roger was sick and not playing wonderfully yesterday so I actually thought Rafael had a good chance going in. Whereas Andy literally came out of NOWHERE and beat Pete. I mean, it was his first time on TV lol, only three months into his first full season on tour, for that matter! That Costa match was like his 4th career ATP match or something... and he followed it up by beating Moya a few matches later. So this was huge, because he hasn't had a top ten win since then. And to do it against Roger with the year he's having, on a hardcourt... christ. I don't even know what to say.

well I didn't say I thought that was historic.. but, Andy does still talk about it as a very important match for him. And pics from it... yeah, I dont think that he would "Get Nadal" , he's like Hewitt it's really, he gives his all, puts his heart and soul into winning each point and thats enough to get him through matches against opponents that are "better" than him.
and I dont think Roger could beat him on clay, he's extermely competitive and thats his best surface.......

Sjengster
03-29-2004, 02:44 AM
Somehow, the moment I saw someone in GM say that Federer was 100% certain to beat Nadal easily and that if he was wrong he would eat humble pie, I knew an upset was in the offing. Clearly Federer was still affected by the flu, but then to adapt an Aussie saying about injuries, if you're ill you don't play and if you play you're not ill, so he must take responsibility for it. I wouldn't mind the loss so much if he hadn't been up 40-0 on his serve in the second set and then lost five points in a row. He certainly needs time to recover for DC duties, though.

So, I guess it's earmuffs time for Nadal vs Gonzalez... is there anyone left in the tournament that I care greatly about? Of course, now I know how a lot of other people felt after a couple of rounds in IW. Rather uncannily similar to last year, when the world no. 1 claimed the title in California and then succumbed to an illness and lost early in Miami - provided Federer doesn't follow Hewitt's example for the whole year, no cause for great concern.

You can tell by his demeanor in interviews that he's not a very confident person off court, he mumbles alot and he looks down and covers his face, it's like he's uncomfortable being in the spotlight, thats why I dont think all this hype will go to his head like it has *somewhat* for Gasquet, as Becca said he's very grounded.
