I wish they meet at FO.

1-nadal is not defensive - he is a counter puncher
2- guga will be lucky to win more than 5 games vs nadal

First step to counter punching is to be on the defensive (take some offense from opponent).

Peak Kuerten would win a lot more than 5 games vs. Nadal. I say 3 sets in 5 set match.

I don't know what to think. Guga didn't look very good last week. I would love his to be back to a standard where he could at least compete with top 100 players. Anymore than that would almost seem too much too hope for. I really don't know what to make of this result. Was Volandri fit? One result on its own doesn't tell me Guga is back as much as I would like to believe he is. I suppose we will all have a better picture after his next match and if he can win that one too then the one after. And even if Guga can play one or two good matches does he have the fitness to stay out there, to run the way one needs to run if one is going to win at the highest level. Time will tell. But whatever happens.....hats off to Guga for fighting against some pretty overwelming odds. It is those qualities that make a player a champion and indeed made Guga a champion all those years ago.

What happened to him? Did he retire?

No, Guga hasn't officially retired. He cannot seem to get over his chronic hip problems. He tried coming back this year, playing Challengers and taking wild cards where he could get them, like the Sony Ericsson Open. He is 2-8 in matches this year. After losing to Raemon Sluiter in the first round at Key Biscayne he went home to try to get well and hasn't played since.

You should pass your Volandri suspicions on to the ATP, it would be more effective than bumping threads like this ;)
