*I don't remember.. but Corretja beat him in the final. Yay.
*Jiri Novak
*Elena Bovina reaching the 4th round, and reaching the Top 20 for the first time. Anna Pornikova embarassing herself for the last time in a Grand Slam, in a 1-6 0-6 loss to C. Henin-Hardenne, where she hit a serve that bounced before the net. Or, Serena winning her 4th straight slam.
*Edberg.

It would have been the Soviet Union then for a start, but it was probably a typo.
I just copied the score. :p

And I see that Wimbledon had 9-8 scores for a handful of years in the 70's.

I'm thankful that we have tiebreaks in the 13th game today.

The man known as Jaroslav Drobny he was Czech, but defected and won Wimbledon under an Egyptian passport and then became British. He won Wimbledon in 54 and the French Open in 51 and 52.

His gold medal was in the 1948 Olympics when he represented Czechoslovakia in ice hockey.

2. Before Gaudio beat Coria at RG, who was the last Argentine to defeat Coria in tournament play? I want the player and the tournament?
3. How many former RG champions have won the former tournament held in Boston on the green clay?

Action Jackson
01-01-2005, 04:22 AM
Here we are some more questions. Some of these are very easy and maybe 1 or 2 or not.

* Which player beat 3 players in a row of the same nationality all in 5 setters on his way to his best ever GS performance? Name the player, his victims, the Slam and the year of the event.

# How many players have been in the top 10 and have never played a match at Wimbledon?

# Which descent is Mariano Zabaleta? What I am looking for is what origin is his last name from?

# How many players have won a Junior GS event, and then won the senior event the next year after their junior success?

# How many players have defended a Junior GS singles crown?

# Which two players were involved in a GS semi final and then 1 week later the loser was the best man at the winner's wedding?

# Which former player and coach had a great 0-16 record against Ivan Lendl?

# Which players have been the ones who have defeated Jarkko Nieminen in finals?

# How many Roland Garros finalists have won the former title in Geneva? For the benefit this will include both winners and finalists.

# Which player made this comment and after which match was it made. "I didn't have four shots today. Second serve bad. No forehand down-the-line. Bad return and backhand was too risky. And I did a lot of running. I hit only forehand crosscourt, he stand there and made me left right, left right, I was running like idiot. I think myself this is Woodforde I am playing, not Sampras, what is going on? Maybe I need time out because when you lose to Woodforde unless it is doubles, then you look in mirror and ask yourself what is happening, is engine working."

# Which player had moved up over 200 places in one season, having won 3 titles in this season, one of them as a qualifier and the other as WC because he couldn't get a visa in time for Wimbledon qualies and had to play this event?

# Which player said this about a female heckler at the US Open. " Well, I'm out there for four hours and some lady's telling me to hurry up and play and try harder. I think that's pretty ridiculous when I don't think she can run six blocks."

I can't hold it against you if you like Gilbert. :)

I don't think he took it quite with as much humility as Vitas Gerulaitis, though. I mean seriously, nobody beats Vitus Gerulaitis 17 times in a row! Gilbert did slightly jest about the 0-16 record in "Winning Ugly", in his credit.

But Vitas Cokealitis was flair personified and loved the party life and Gilbert wishes he had some of that personality.

He was Lendl's bitch and knew it.

The clay courters who didn't play Wimbledon... they all must be pre-90s. So, I don't know.

*Which 2 players once played each other in the 1st round of the Australian Open, and 1 year later, would play each other in the final!?
*Frenchman who was never able to pass the Quarter finals of a slam in his career (losing Wimbledon qf's in 91,92 and 94... Aus open qf's in 91, 93) ?
*Who beat David Wheaton 10-8 in the fifth at the 1995 Australian Open 4th round to reach his only Quarter final there?
*which player lost 4 matches in a row before going on a streak of 35 wins during the 1995 season?

*Player won the title in Ostrava when his semi final and final opponents retired hurt during both matches?

Kucera. I miss when he was good.

*which player lost a match in Monte carlo 7-6, 0-6, 0-6 and a few months later lost to the same enemy in a French Open final?

Bruguera/Berasategui

*Which 2 players once played each other in the 1st round of the Australian Open, and 1 year later, would play each other in the final!?

Korda/Rios. It's hard to believe Marcelo beat him the 1st time.

*Frenchman who was never able to pass the Quarter finals of a slam in his career (losing Wimbledon qf's in 91,92 and 94... Aus open qf's in 91, 93) ?

Probably Forget.

You spoiled the Muster one for me. :p

All old players.

I thought Berasategui didn't, but he made a pathetic attempt in 2000.

No, I was a youngin' then.

I've also noticed lots of ret.'s, so I'm sure that's the reason.

Ok, what questions can I come up with on this occasion.

# How many players have won a TMS event at their first final? Some of these should be quite easy.

# Which guy made 8 consecutive US Open and Masters finals?
# How many players have won RG multiple times and also Hamburg, Monte Carlo and Rome? Yes, one RG doesn't count as multiple
# How many unseeded players have won RG?
# This incident happened at the 1991 Aus Open. At the handshake the two players had a few unkind words over an incident where Player 2's doubles partner was constantly heckling Player 1 when he was about to serve.

Player 1: Guys like you should be in Iraq.
Player 2: At least we are man enough to be there.
Player 1: Lets meet after the match and sort this out properly.

Name the players involved. A clue one of the players is an American, they have both retired.

# Which player had a 3-7 record against their opponent, but all their 3 wins came in Grand Slam events? Name the players and where and when the 3 wins came in.
