Does anybody know how are lucky losers chosen? Is it, for example, according to how well they did in the qualifyig match they lost? Or according to their ranking position? Or it is simply a question of "luck"? Thanks.

Highest ranked loser in final rd of qualies gets in.

The whole term "lucky Loser" came about cos thats exactly how it was.
they used to pick the lucky loser from a hat.
so it was random.

So why didn't Dupuis get the vacant spot at Miami? He is ranked higher than Verdasco!!

I think it was star who suggested it - maybe he left town right away?

Thanks. It's curious that Verdasco has been twice lucky loser in US tournaments in the last 7 months (US OPEN)...
