Great performance from Feña to level the tie at 2 all and show that famous fighting spirit of his and give his team a chance to win the tie.

Down to the wire in the last match with Massu and Andreev.

Safin is a good DC player. So I'm very glad Fena can beat him...in 3! :woohoo:
I hope Massu will win too!

If the statistics are to be trusted, safin had only 4 ground-stroke winners. Which is pretty pathetic.

Safin only had 1 forehand winner and 3 backhand winners. Gonzo on the other hand had 22 forehand winners and 11 backhand winners. :eek:Great win by Gonzo. I still don't know who I want to win this next match. I want them both!!

Unexpected from Gonzo. I really thought Safin would close it out today. Nice fight Gonzo. Hopefully, the 5th Rubber will be a very good match.

Gonzo AO version is back!!!! :woohoo: briiliant tennis from Fernando :yeah:

I think Feña is a bad match up for guys like Safin or Berdych. Marat not played bad, but he often need to climb to the net for win a point and this is not his "A" plan of game, he didn't hit so many backhand or forehand winners and that did cost the match for him.

Congrats Feña, well played!!!!!!!!! :D

02-11-2007, 03:58 PM
Gonzo played tactically very well. He used the slice BH and drove Safin nuts with it (probably watched a few Santoro tapes) and moved him around with the FH. Safin didn't have enough legs and kept the score decent with great ballstriking, but you can't win on slow clay just hitting winners. The crowd is ready to make life miserable for Igor now.

Ummm, the tie isn't over.

It's over unless Massu chokes badly. Andreev has already played his "match of year" against out of form Gonzo. Friday's wins were totally unexpected and kind of flukes as we can see now.

He can't be agressive against guys like Gonzo. He is just not fast enough and takes the ball too late to dictate rallies. There are dozens players in Top-100 who play faster tennis than Marat does.

No, he didn't. He lost to Gonzo at RG, Wimbledon and somewhere in USA. It's his 4th consecutive loss to Fernando.

This is a repeat of what happened to Russia in 2003. I think DC should be every 2 years and let the champions bask in the glory a bit, what's the use if you lose the title after 2 months?

All,

Below - Marat is echoing what I was trying to convey in another post. He gets it.

"YOU'LL WIN THE NEXT ONE - MARAT"

"What a change

“Until the last point is played, nothing is lost” Gonzalez said.

“I think we will win this tie. I don’t think Andreev will be able to repeat what he did on Friday, and Nicolas (Massu) should be able to beat him”.

“I think the Russians had the weight of playing under pressure, and I took advantage of that. Safin’s serve was less upsetting for me than Andreev’s, but the court made the ball bounce very oddly and I had to invent things in the moment”.

Safin, on the other hand, was not too expressive: “The game was closer than the score says, perhaps I could have won it as well. Fernando had his chances and took them, I did not. He had a bit of luck too. It’s only a tennis match after all, somebody has to win”.

The audience left on Friday with a sour heart, as both Gonzalez and Massu had lost their first ever homr Davis Cup matches and the 0-2 count looked very hard to recover. Now the whole crowd is expecting the full comeback, something Chile has never done before in a Davis Cup tie."
