Roddick the next RG winner upsets Minar 6/4 4/6 6/2 6/3

Despite Minar making more winners, Duckboy won.

After losing to guys like Arthurs on clay Roddick finally wins a match on the mud not in Houston.

It look pretty solid I think + it was Andy first serious match on clay since Rome last year
28 Aces in 17 games on claw clay  + 14 service winners so it was over 2 points won directly by serve in one game on very slow clay
17 forehand winners
11 backhand winners

Come ON Andy :worship: :worship: :worship:

I'll say this for Roddick, he's the US's top player...and he's playing this weekend (so are the rest of the Top 10 below him [in rank] except Robredo). More importantly, I don't think PMac ever has to doubt Andy's availability...regardless of the surface or opponent or critics or results from the prior tournament.

And if there's nothing I've learned over the past few years, it's that DC is always open/fair game (call it the "on any given day" philosophy) so a win makes the result is a good one. Good on you, Andy!

Um Roddick yeah, u might want to watch your a** because if you pass rafa, oh yeah there's Fed right behind him.

He might want to tank the match just so he won't have to endure another embarrassing a- whipping from fed.

On clay it would be Federer first AND IF Roddick beats Federer THEN Nadal on clay.

Nadal is still tougher than Fed on clay.

So beating a guy who just came back from a drug ban (Coria) and 2 guys virtually in their retirement year classify as good wins (Costa and Chang). You set the standard too low, but that was then, this is now. Under the clay god James Scott Connors, the clay revolution of Roddick is going to continue.

Why all the hostility in this thread?

Hasn't Roddick beaten Guillermo Coria, Seb Grosjean, and Xavier Malisse on red clay? And hasn't the guy actually won 2 or 3 clay court titles? You talk about him like he'd lose to a club player on a clay court??!! And as for Nadal, Roddick took him to 4 sets on clay in Spain in the DC final and had a set point to go up 2 sets to 1 on him in that match (lost that tiebreak 8-6). Hardly sounds like an embarrassing result.

If Roddick had lost its pretty obvious most of the posters would have roasted him for it. But then he wins and they roast him for that. Very interesting.

I don't know why Andy is considered such abd clay court player he isn't great on clay but Come on he isn't hopeless. He single handed crushed Belgium on clay and Oliver Rochus is not a joke on clay , he was won some tournaments on clay (I know that Houston is europen clay but still title is title and Poelten was real clay even when draw was weak he won it on clay , he went far in twice in TMS QF and SF in Rome maybe you should try to dfo it ?? But going deep on clay in Europe on surface you are not familiar with is very hard. Also noone remembers DC 2004 Andy played great on clay both against Nadal (who went to be RG and clay court monster next season ) and Moya (former RG champion ) he had set points to go 2-1 insets against Rafa on slowest clay possible.
He had some bad loses ok but he is not a clown on clay, he can play tennis even more he cout his UE and he is not afraid of long rallies. Actually Andy has had more succes on clay than Berdych
his serve is still a factor even on this surface and ha hasn't got such big hole in his BH anymore

Im pretty sure that Roddick might have won a little bit more convincingly if this wasnt on clay and on the hardcourts of the 05 US Open.

Roddick will never win RG and will be never Master of Wimbledon, because his tennis is very primitive and incredibly boring. He presents nothing interesting. He has only good serve and this is too little to win such important tours as a.m.

GWH is always clouded when it comes to Roddick I think, so never expect him to admit roddick is going to have a chance on any match on clay, let alone against one of the better players like Berdych. I was the same too :D but have managed to stop haha. I'm definately no fan of Roddick, but I was pretty much sure of a Roddick win.
