they also had a power outage last night and it sounded iffy that they were gonna get the power back in time. Rain wouldn't be surprising, it's south Florida lol..... hopefully it stops soon though or the tourney's gonna get allllllllll screwed up

Blackout ends Enqvist-Lapentti match

By Harvey Fialkov

KEY BISCAYNE · The 20-year-old tournament has survived Hurricane Andrew. Add a blackout to the list of challenges for the Nasdaq-100 Open.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., the Crandon Park Tennis Center lost power, including the lights on Court 1, where Thomas Enqvist and Nicolas Lapentti were in midpoint of the last match of the evening.

Lapentti led 7-5, 1-3 before the blackout hit. At 11:27, tournament referee Alan Mills decided to suspend play. The match was rescheduled to the third match on Court 1 today.

"Our first concern was security, guests and players, and to get the fans out safely," said tournament director Adam Barrett.

Backup generators in the facility and gasoline-powered light towers in the parking lots enabled fans to exit safely. Barrett was unable to predict if the power would be restored in time for today's matches at 10 a.m.

"I hope the situation is fixed very quickly," Barrett said.

Anyone know what's going on in the JMG match? Injury?

MisterQ

Santoro lost his first set. Let's go Fabrice!

Chris Seahorse
03-25-2004, 08:09 PM
Yes I would really like to see Fabrice pull this one out. He's looking much better in 2nd set but then he looked like he was going to beat Sanguinetti in Indian Wells too. I also hope he has better doubles partner this week than Pavel. Pavel is a fine singles player but a guy of Fabrice's standard deserves a player with a better doubles pedigee.

Were you watching the Court Cast scoreboard? I think it just malfunctioned for a while because all the courts stopped moving then all of sudden it came back at three all. I can tell you that JMG is playing less than stellar tennis, judging by the stats. Good thing he's three time zones away or I would give him a good shaking right now.

Yeah I was, thanks for the info. He seems to be having trouble, I thought he'd breeze past Burgsmuller.

You should have read my homepage :) . Their two previous meetings have both been close and JMG only beat him 7-5, 7-5 a few weeks ago in Scottsdale. They're only about 8 places apart in the rankings right now (I think) and if JMG's knees are giving him problems again...well, his movement is already suspect enough. This will be a close one.

Why thank you. The woman who designed and built it for me is a genius in my mind. All I have to do is supply the text and upload the photos - kind of like 'website for a dummy.'

And the tanned torso just lost the first set. Despite my blind faith in JMG, I have a bad feeling about this match that I just cannot shake. Poop.

33 UE's in one set. For the first time in his career, he really is acting like the male Kournikova.

Yeah Bunk, there was rain this morning and all the matches started late. I'm guessing it's a bit cold and blustery there and I know someone who really hates conditions like that. adidas needs to get him a sweater vest or something. (grumble grumble)

JanMike is very good with fans, always has been (but he can be a bit moody at times). Chuck is Chuck and JMG will never change coaches so... I refuse to be afraid of him though and he finally looked me in the eye at San Jose. About time since he's seen me how many times in the last year? Okay, I'll shut up now

James signed for everyone after he lost to Spadea too. Vahaly, what a nice guy, he was truly happy when people were there just watching him practice. He smiled at everyone who walked up and just seemed truly appreciative that people cared enough to watch.
