Massu survives 7 MPs, def. Roitman 0-6 7-6(3) ret.

He lost the first set 0-6 and save 7 MPs on 3-5; 4-5 and 5-6, he next won the 2nd set tie break by 7-3 and Roitman walksover by an injury in his left leg. Amazing.

That was a hilarious 2nd set, and aided by the unwittingly dumb and classic comedy of the Geordie BF commentator.

Roitman played well, a real shame for him to end the match with an injury. Massu was poor for alot of the match, but just stayed alive long enough to get some luck. It looked like he would go on to win the match having finally got himself together though.

roitman lead 6-0 5-2

massu break in the 3-5* and saved 1 mp
in the *4-5 saved 4 more, including a 0-40
at *5-6 massu saved other 2 mp from 15-40

then in the TB at 5-2 massu lead... roitman got serious injuried and at the end of the TB has to retire

still... incredible fight massu, he saved for his own 6 of 7 mp.. only one was an ue of roitman

Shame for Roitman - although he looked to be losing that second set tiebreak anyway, he picked up a hamstring or groin injury when coming out of a slide for a ball, had an injury timeout, tried to continue, lost the tiebreak, and couldn't finish the match. When he served on the resumption it was all arm, no power on it at all, Massu would have picked him off.

To be fair, Massu saved the 7MPs before this injury happened and looked on his way back into the match anyway.

Bizarre all round, though.

I remember the Buenos Aires's 2002 Final, Massu def. Calleri 26 76(5) 62 surviving several match points from Calleri who was leading 62 51 40-15, Nico, you are a real GLADIATOR.

I'm gonna see him the next week in Davis Cup with Gonzo, Vamos Chile!

I'm worried about Chile's chances against the Russians now. This Massu is not going to be good enough to beat Andreev or Tursunov (i don't have any hopes against Safin). We depend on the doubles, and against Safin/Tursunov is a toss-up.

it's adv. russia till now

massu is playing like crap since he lost to stepanek in miami last year, he was playing great till that match.. since that match he start to playing really bad specially vs good players...

still... DC is different... i hope Nico can bounce from this bad moment in his carrer

we don't have a choice in this... Capdeville is not strong enough mentally or experienced enough to beat Tursunov or Safin in a 5 set match... :(... hopefully Nico will get some confidence out of these matches...

I agree about Capdeville. He should have won against Massu and he blew it. Nico's problem seems to be more mental than anything else. The match against the Djoker was a huge blow to his confidence.

It's an injured Tursunov on clay - if he's even able to play.

If Massu can't beat that he should probably retire. Then douse himself in petrol and set himself on fire. Something painful anyway. :)

i think Andreev will play singles... in the 1st day will be Feña vs Igor, Marat vs Nico...

the doubles match is DA key for the tie... i hope the golden duo can win that important dead rubber

I think Tursunov is going to play doubles with Marat. And Massu has had embarrasing defeats on clay, like the one against Gimelstob in Estoril last year.

remember also Bracciali killed Nico in Casablanca's final last year :retard:

also he lost to Marcos Daniel in Acapulco... but that loss doesnt count because Nico was tired as hell from the Costa do Sauipe tournament ;)

Tursunov sucked all the way on clay last year... he only played good on clay in RG when he almost upset Fat Dave in the 3rd round... :o

I know Nico is having problems. But maybe it's a better discussion for Nico's board not on GM where it just gives people ammunition to bash him. But that's just my humble opinion. :)

Massu is one of the best fighters of all time in men's tennis.
His ambition, mental strenght and physical stamina are the main factors his successful career. He never gave up :worship:
Someone has mentioned remarkable final against Calleri in Buenos Aires '02. The other good example his spirit of fight was final in Palermo 2003. Paul-"Choker" Mathieu was leading 6:5 (40-0) in the third on serve but Massu won 12 consecutive points and match 1-6 6-2 7-6! :p
