Tommy could take this title and beat any of this field on the day but could be wishfull thinking I'm still not sure about his form right now.

I just wonder if last year's champion will ask for a wildcard now that he's not playing Monte Carlo....

No, I don't think so. I read that he wants to take the rest of April off

An intriguing draw. I wonder when the last ATP clay court event was that didnt have a single Spainard or Argentinian in the draw? If someone can find another such draw I will be very very impressed. This draw gives several guys who are reasonable good on clay without being able to compete with the top tier of clay courters a good chance for a title. Grosjean, Novak, Nieminen, Pavel, Haas, Spadea, and even Hanescu and Davydenko will all be looking at this draw and thinking I can take this title.

After a 3 month layoff it would probably be unrealistic to expect El Aynaoui to win here but I hope he turns up healthy at least.

I wonder why none of claycourters guys who are low seeds in Barcelona like Chela or Zabaleta doesn't try this tourney instead... they would have very good chances in a draw like this of being in the final and although Godó is bigger, its likely they won't pass thru Coria, Moya or Safin.
