I know, this isn't exactly the most exciting first round tie...

Forget announced the French team today:
Gasquet
Grosjean
Clément
Llodra

Romania will play with:
Pavel
Hanescu
Crivoi Mergea
Tecau
(Surface: Taraflex)

FFT website (in French): http://www.fft.fr/cd2007/France-Roumanie

TV Schedule for France:
1st single match live on France 3, 2nd match on Sport+
Doubles match live on France 4 / bits on France 2?
Last singles on France 3 (only if deciding rubbers)

Why won't Gael Monfils play for France he surely deserves a spot is there any racial thing going on there?

France let Yannick Noah play so I wouldn't think it was a racial thing.

You think he is top 2 in singles for France?

Gasquet and Grosjean deserve to play singles, Llodra is great in doubles and Clement is a good partner for Llodra and number 1 substitute for singles at the same time.

Could there be a better team for France? Santoro could also take Clement's part, but that's all.

Truc
02-01-2007, 12:57 PM
Forget doesn't seem to like Monfils very much, but it has nothing to do with the fact that he is black.

You have to think in a long-term perspective too, JMG, many people think indeed it was a good occasion to have Monfils play his first DC match.
I know he isn't very reliable yet, but he might be a good DC player for the future, it would have been interesting to see how he is doing (with the help of a coach during the matches, he loves this kind of crowds, he gets along very well with Gasquet...)

(Grosjean isn't clearly top 2 either in singles anyway, the French rankings are atm: Gasquet - Clément - Benneteau - Grosjean - Gicquel - Monfils - Simon - Mathieu... Only Gasquet is a no-brainer here.)

JMG
02-01-2007, 07:17 PM
Imo Grosjean is by far better than Benneteau, Gicquel, Simon and probably Monfils. I've only seen ugly matches from Monfils so far. Maybe Mathieu would be good enough to replace him, but only if he had a new brain.

 Obviously you don't know what you're talking about..."racial" is a word that shouldn't still be used in the 21th century. There are no race(s) within the human race as it's proven scientifically for years...And that's coming from a mixed person...

Second, he was the first youngster to be selected by Forget (before Gasquet was), and has already been selected 2 times...;)

Yet, despite the fact than i'm one of the rare fan of Monfils i understand that non-selection seing how he has played recently... Moreover, he's been a bit immature, treating coaches like kleenex, etc... So that's needed for him to refocus and to learn his lessons...But it was one of the best chances to try him though, i admit.

BTW, i'm sure you don't know that since 3 centuries, 4.2 millions of the French population is black, yet they have the Frenchest names, culture, customs etc...ever. Like Gaël.

Second, he was the first youngster to be selected by Forget (before Gasquet was), and has already been selected 2 times...;)Yes, he was the 5th player against Sweden and Russia in 2005. Just as a sparring-partner, he was never supposed to play, but it's normal because he really had just one good display in Bercy at the beginning of 2005, he was still playing Challengers.
It's funny to read now what Forget said at the time, he seemed so eager to integrate young players into the team for the future :p (http://www.sport.fr/Tennis/ten/Guy-Forget-Gael-Monfils-a-le-style-de-jeu-des-Suedois-42106.shtm ).

The doubles only as "fil rouge" during the rugby on France 2, so we won't see much of it.
And the last singles on France 3 only if the tie isn't over yet, I guess (it says "Blablabla OU Tennis: Coupe Davis 2007")

@Puschkin: Regarding your msg: nope, I don't know of any streams yet.

For people who live in France, France 4 will show the doubles live, I was just speaking for people who live abroad and probably only get France 2/France 3.

Ah, that's why I couldn't find any mention of the doubles match. :( I only checked France 2 and 3.

Since October many more germans can watch France 2, 3 and 5 because those programs were added to the "Digital Free" package of Kabel Deutschland which also includes Eurosport 2 (reason enough for Tennis fans). :) No France 4 though. France 4 will probably also be used for some of the Roland Garros coverage. :(

You know what is disappointing? That the french channels (apart from Pay TV for football) still don't have 16:9, while Germany (ARD, ZDF), Britain (BBC channels), Switzerland (SF channels) and Austria (ORF channels) already use that format for most of their sports coverage. France needs to start going with the trend. I want DC and RG on France 1-5 in 16:9! As long as we don't have more countries following the lead of Britain, Eurosport won't change either.

I won't start talking about Tennis in HD yet. We'll probably have to wait a few more years for that.

Richard's only starting to slightly dominate. He's nervous as expected. There was only 1 really bad call in the match so far and it happened at 30-30 on Hanescu's serve at 5-5 but it was very close so it's harsh but you can't really accuse the line judges of anything.

They're both cracking some winners, Richard wins most of the rallies though... Hanescu's serving really well. Richard too. Some aces...

I didn't see the match, but I think that after that bit of a struggle, Forget could have spared us his 'it's the proof that Seb was the right pick', 'another player might have been too intimidated', etc. (especially since all the articles say that Pavel completely ran out of gas in the last part of the match).

 Honestly, what kind of reporter writes crappy lines like that?

When I spoke to Andrei after his qualy loss at AO he said he wasn't too worried about it because he was missing match fitness after his nose operation in December. He'd not played a match for months before that and has really only played a few doubles matches and a few singles at Delray Beach since then so he would still be rather short on match fitness... especially for a best of 5. I'm proud of his effort considering :)

That's just a bad translation i did (hence the "") because i don't know how you say "enrobé" in English... They're all conscious of what he's recovering from and what is real level is etc... Grosjean in his post-match interview explains that it was Pavel who made the match hard for him.
