What are your favorite rivalries that do not involve 2 grandslam champions??

I am asking for rivalries that involve a grand slam champion, and someone who isnt a grand slam champion, or just two players who never won a grand slam.

Not Borg-McEnroe or Sampras-Agassi for example, I am not interested.:)

This are my two favorite rivalries of that kind.
A lot of great matches.

Hewitt vs Srichaphan...
*Can't remember what there exact H:H is but I think its 5/1 in Hewitt's favour-->> however all their matches seemed to be very close with Lleyton often winning crucial tie-breaks. Also coming back from match point down as happened at San Jose & Indian Wells a couple of years ago if I recall correctly!??!...

This one is an old one, but it suits this thread for sure.

The battle of Austria between Thomas Muster and Horst Skoff. These matches were close and these guys hated each other with a passion and that gave their matches more of an edge. Having seen three of their matches and there definitely wasn't the love there.

When they played in Austria the crowd was split as if you were going for Muster, then they would never cheer Skoff and vice versa. The media played it up as well.

1987 Vienna Indoor Hardcourt R16 Muster 6-4 6-4
1988 Bordeaux Clay SF Muster 4-6 6-4 7-5
1988 Vienna Indoor Carpet F Skoff 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2
1989 Barcelona Clay QF Skoff 6-4 6-3
1990 Kitzbuhel Clay QF Skoff 6-4 6-2
1990 Vienna Indoor Carpet SF Skoff 6-2 7-6
1991 Hamburg Clay R64 Skoff 7-5 6-2
1991 Florence Clay F Muster 6-2 6-7(2) 6-4
1991 Geneva Clay F Muster 6-2 6-4
1993 Mexico City Clay QF Muster 6-2 7-5
1993 Roland Garros Clay R128 Muster 0-6 6-3 6-4 6-2

Thomas Muster 6-5

Gaudio and Kuerten was one, though funny enough they never played after Gaudio won RG.

Nalbandian and Nadal, though it has happened often enough, more because of Nalbandian.

Andreev and Almagro on the clay.

Santoro and Clement, more so for the level of love between these two guys.

Nadal and Youzhny is a great one, they're pretty evenly split especially off clay, you never really know which way the matches are going to go, and they've had a couple of long battles like Oz Open 05 and Wimby 07.

Gasquet Murray is an interesting rivalry at the moment. Although he is a GS champ, I love Safin and Nalbandian's rivalry. Also, Blake v. Gonzo (although not good for James).

Good one. I think Soderling vs Spanish player on clay would do. The rivalry with Almagro and Verdasco is just as good imo with many great clay matches

One of the best Soderling rivalries is that vs Kohlschreiber that a bit unexpectedly is 1-4 to Kohli but full of great tennis for some reason. Something in Robins game brings up the very best from the german

Murray and Federer almost always produce great matches, except for the US Open final. The rivalry only has one grand slam champion, but that will change in the future. Their match in Shanghai a few years ago was pure brilliance. One of the best matches of all time when it comes to quality.

Agreed, I'd forgotten about that one. I think it's because Kolschrieber is an out and out shot maker, and if I had to say he was comparable to another player it's that of Federer, who we also know owns Soderling in the H2H. So that may have something to do with it.
