- and please tell me how his name should be pronounced as well. I have heard 2 BBC commentators pronounce it 3 ways. . .

denkevich i think.

Our commentator pronounced guccione as gusion (silent n) as if hes french. Then he went to gushion and finally got it a bit right

:) Dancevic = Dančević = Danchevich

He is not real Canadian I would say...but another Croat or Serb by origin :rocker: :yeah:

Well, at least that is ONE of the three variations I heard! Thank you for the replies.

Shame the original poster has not had any replies! Even the ATP players profile page does not have a picture.

I don't know what you qualify as "real" Canadian, but I'm sure Frank is. He was born and raised here, so were his parents. YES, his ethnic background is European but so are those of most white people in Canada.

From wikipedia:
Dancevic's paternal grandparents were born in Slavonia, Croatia. He grandfather is of Serbian extraction while his grandmother is of MonteNegro descent.

Well said, Art. I'll fight any one o' ya' who says I'm not "real" Canadian just because my ancestors hail from Krypton. :D

Oh yay, this is the way I say it. I think it sounds the best. But our commentators messed it up as well.

As for Guccione, I've always pronounced that the "Italian" way (as in, Guchioni), but I have no idea.

I swear no one pronounces Dancevic the same way  On ESPN it was something different.

Birthplace: Niagra Falls, Ontario

That's about as "real Canadian" as one gets, my friend.

A large percentage of the population is European by origin. He's as "real Canadian" as the rest of us.

Acknowledge his european roots all you'd like, but he's Canadian, through and through ;)

Actually the Italian way to pronounce Guccione is GUTCH - CHO (as in choke)- NE.:) He is Italian-Australian after all, I think.
