I just turn on my computer just minutes ago, and I'm surprised that nobody create a thread about it yet

It was a very balanced match for both, but Feña did too many UE's errors IMO, it was a little "vintage Gonzo" sometimes.

Credit to JMDP for playing at the same level till the 4th set, as Gonzo said, JM knew that he could beat Feña.

Other thing that I didn't like it it was the behavior of my compatriots, it was terrible :o but it is always the same when a chilean plays against an argentine. Chilean people are always supporting like in Davis Cup and I really don't like it. On TV I heard the insults clearly, it was worse when the argentine crowd came after the Nalbandian match was finished. I'm sorry for JMDP in this aspect

Now all the attention is in the González-Hewitt match :boxing: :shout: it's already a thread to comment that, so I give details in that ;)

Anyway, a win is a win, so good luck Gonzo against Mr. C'mon :yeah:

Congrats to Fernando for making it through.

It sounds like JMDP really gave a real fight. I was sad to hear that he had to retire because of cramping and left the court in tears. I imagine that this was his first time going to five sets in a match.

Congrats to Feña.

PD: Did Gonzo played worse than against Korolev? I couldn´t watch none of the two matches :o

yes, he played worse, but IMO I don't think he played bad against Korolev, it was Zhenya who played at top 20 level ;)

IMO JMDP should have won the match...if only he'd managed to win the 1st set....

Yup I´ve read some reports on Chilean sites and I read Feña was impressed with Evgeny´s game. Damn I would have loved to watch that game :banghead:

Gracias

Expected win for González, it is good that he came through the two promising youngsters even though he does not seem to be in the best of form. A big  for JMDP, it will be interesting to see how he does in the coming South America clay tournaments.

As far as I know he won´t be playing the SA clay tournaments. Clay is not his favourite surface anyway ;)

Just to add inaddition to Lau's post that last year he lost in the first rounds of those tournies and lost in the 2nd round of Vina playing Gonzalez.

Way to go Fena! I was a little worried about his draw simply bec. both Korolev and JMDP are very talented.

Hewitt looked like he was struggling a bit during his last match, but we shall see. I think Gonzo should get through in 4.

I know that he prefers hard courts but I would think at this point that playing on clay would help him more developing his game. He obviously knows better than me though :)

Del Potro looked devastated at the end. He played well and looks like a great talent. Too bad it had to end this way as it was a great match.
The Chilean and Argentine fans really made a great atmosphere and it was entertaining watching them go at it.

I didn't see the complete match, but I saw that JMDP was angry about something, probably with the croud. What kind of insults could you heard?

Tons of luck for Gonzo againts Lleyton!!

Nah, The supposed insults didn't exist for me. Well, I prefer to not going deep on that! :o

Feña played good when He needed to, but hey, props to JMDP, He was playing really great and showed He can bother any other top player.

Congrats to Feña for get through but, Please next time, play cleaner

It sounds like JMDP was a little bothered by the Chilean fans' behavior. Truth be told- it sounds like they were pretty nasty.

My Spanish isn't the greatest- but is he saying in the last paragraph that a young kid was calling him an Argentine motherf*****?

My Spanish isn't the greatest- but is he saying in the last paragraph that a young kid was calling him an Argentine motherf*****?

Yes, he said that a little kid who was not older than 10 was calling him argentine piece of s***, he also said that he snapped one time and wanted to tell them to get on the court and play in that kind of heat to see what it feels like, he apologized for his behavior but he also said that he didn't deserve that kind of treatment. On the other hand Gonzo said that it was great that the fans got so much into the match and that made both players play at a higher level because it was Argentina vs. Chile...I dont agree with the statements made by Gonzo but we all know how seriously he takes his country...

Good match by Del Potro and he's getting stronger every tournament, we know he has the talent but he's also developing it very quickly. Good luck for Gonzo against Hewitt, how will the crowd be for this match????

basically the article talks about the crowd getting way too involved and how the fans were being extremly rude
JMDP says that it felt like they were more interested in disturbing him than supporting gonzalez, but he says it will help him in the future like on Davis Cup or something.
to be honest the whole chile vs argentina has been there since forever and pretty much in every sport, so no real shocker there
