He hadnt won a title for 3 years, and it was just amazing for him to suddenly win 3 in one year! It made me so happy to learn of those results!

My other huge fave is Agassi, but I dont get extremely excited when he wins titles anymore, because its very often ;)

Another player i really like is Ivanisevic, and his Wimbledon win was another that made me so happy.

here are a couple:
(there are a lot to choose from, lol)

Agassi def. Hewitt, USO2002 semi

Hewitt seemed to have Agassi's number prior to this, and I was not sure Agassi would be able to pull this one out. So many great shots and changes of momentum in this match between the two greatest returners. When Agassi took charge in the fourth and was serving to force another Agassi/Sampras final (who would have thought?), the crowd was going insane.

Agassi def. Sampras Australian Open 2000 semi
Similar situation. Sampras had been dominating Agassi. the match was a really tough five-setter with a brilliant fourth set tiebreak. This made him the first man since Laver to reach 4 consecutive slam finals.

Ferrero df Guga in Rome 2001 is perhaps my favourite match ever. Ferrero wasn't half the player that he is now, but it was still amazing to watch. I remember it fondly, especially ever time I hear somebody say that Ferrero couldn't touch Guga when Guga was in his prime and is just "lucky" that Guga got injured.

Anyways, Ferrero over Hewitt in the Davis Cup finals in 2000 was also awesome. It was a close match and all, but Ferrero was never losing it. The crowd made it very exciting and all that. I have watched it several times.

Ferrero beating Gonzo last year at RG was big, because really, that title was his after that.

Coria df Agassi at Roland Garros last year is my favourite Coria match to date, and likely his too.

Ferrero, the clay courter, beating Hewitt and Agassi back to back at the USO was pretty special too.

Robredo beating Hewitt after being so out of the match twice... hilarious stuff. And no, this has nothign to do with disliking Hewitt.

Nobody is mentioning women, but I'll do it anyways. Watching Henin win RG and Australia were amazing for me. RG was great because it was her first, and she had to beat a player that she had really struggled with in the past. Australia was amazing because she had everything working against her, but pulled it off.

RG2003 is my favourite slam ever. It will be hard to top it in my books.

Henman's two wins against Roddick last year (and no, not just because he beat Roddick - although in hindsight, when you consider the amazing run of wins he had after losing to Henman in D.C. that was a thankful respite). I remember thinking Henman had no chance considering how well Roddick was playing, went out for the night and came back to see the Teletext headline "Henman battles back to beat Roddick" and couldn't believe it. When I found out he'd saved a matchpoint, that was even better. And the win in Paris was also big because I knew, given the other semifinalists, that it was effectively Henman's final and his first real chance to win a TMS.

Schalken's back to back wins over Kuerten and Gonzalez I've mentioned before, but they were certainly very special and extra pleasing because his game actually caused them problems, rather than them just losing the match because of errors.

Federer's Wimbledon semi against Roddick was fantastic just because he made it so easy on the nerves after that tight first set. In a way though, I was more happy with the win over Lopez in the fourth round. Bear in mind that Federer hadn't reached a Slam QF in exactly two years, and when I saw him getting treatment early on for his back I thought how unfair it would be if he lost in the round of 16 again solely because of an injury. Lopez had lots of chances to win that match, but Federer scraped through winning the important points.

Hi there, new poster here :)

The match that made me really jump all over was...

Rosset def. Arese, 1992 Olympics final!

Olympics isn't really considered in tennis but still that match was fantastic, never seen such an extatic crowd too, it was like 2x the "worst" (or best depending on the side you look at things) i have seen in DC :) All cheering for Arese...

Hi everyone, I'm new! :wavey:
I think this is a great question...

Some of my favourite wins...
Ivanisevic d. Rafter 2001 Wimbledon final - even though I was watching from behind a door with my eyes shut - it was great!

Sampras' 7th Wimbledon title, with his parents and everything; I liked that.

Henman d. Pavel Paris 2003. Finally the Tiger wins something big!

Federer d. Roddick Wimbledon 2003 and Safin d. Sampras US Open 2000, both because of the tennis.

I also enjoyed seeing Kraijeck d. Washington at Wimbledon, what was it '96, '97? Although the match was a bit dull.

Just to pick a handful... I'll probably thing of loads more now. :p

Yes, I liked Bruguera and that match had quite a bit historical significance. Everyone was going on about Courier's strength, fitness and power and I remember the commentators were saying that Courier will beat Sergi in the 5th, all the while forgetting that Courier didn't have a great 5 set record.

Sergi outlasted Slugger and hitting those very heavy forehands deep to the corners even in the 5th set, sneaking in and hitting drop volleys. After that match the Courier aura was gone and then the next generation of players were hitting harder, they were as fit and had much better backhands so that's where it end for Slugger.

Well, it doesn't have to be in the Final, if Mardy takes out Federer in Wimbledon, it would be a huge upset, but in order for that to happen, one thing that must change is the way he looks at Federer. He has too much respect for him... I mean, he was happy with winning 5 games against Federer in IW, and that attitude must change in order for him to beat him at slams.

If Mardy Fish finally manages to beat Andy Roddick, I will be thrilled.

  Another ridiculous post. Hewitt is NEVER going to win the FO, especially if its Federer in the Fina l. Fed would win something like 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 ;). As regards to Goran, he had already made the final 3 times before, so when Sampras was knocked out by Federer, i saw him as a serious favourite.Goran was an unbelievable grass court player, Hewitt is horrible on clay. The top 300 players would have to be on strike for me to believe that Hewitt has a chance of winning it :)

Recently the one's that come to mind...

Federer def. Safin AO FR 2004 - confirmed Roger's greatness, to follow in the footsteps of Pistol Pete. 1st player since Pete to hold AO and Wimb at the same time.

Safin def. Agassi AO SF 2004 - just great to see someone other than Andre make it to the final. Safin at his best is breathtaking. And seeing what that brought out of Andre - some of the cleanest hitting you could ever wish to see.

Federer def. Philippoussis W FR 2003 - Roger a deserved winner, was about time he broke through and won a major.

Ferrero def. Verkerk FO FR 2003 - Ferrero deserved a French winner and it will break the ice for many more to come.

Sampras def. Agassi US FR 2002 - Amazing tournament culminating in the best win ever. EVER. Showed all the qualities of a champion - written-off for a year, rises again, retires a winner, disappears into tennis immortality as the greatest player of the modern era.

Hewitt def. Nalbandian W FR 2002 - It what he always wanted. Love him, hate him, Lleyts always gives value for money, unlike that once-a-year dud Philipuseless. Hewitt is the purest of fighters on the tennis courts ALWAYS giving 100%. It was beautiful as an Australian to see him rewarded with the golden cup, the 1st since Pat Cash way back in '87.

Sampras def. Rafter W FR 2000 - As an Aussie, it hurt to see Pat lose, but the great Pete is greater, and to break Emo's record was a sight to behold. Seeing Pete break into tears of joyous relief gets me every time.

Agassi def. Medvedev FO FR 1999 - This one I will never forget. Andre was gone at 1-6 2-6, maybe got a little lucky with the rain delay, but when Medvedev's last shot went long the disbelief on Andre's face was priceless - a historic moment, from 2 sets to 0 down, he defied the odds - all four slams for arguably tennis' greatest journeyman.

14xSampras I agree with many of yours!
Apart from all my favourite wins being when Hewitt manages to take a significant victory I would have to say Andre's 99 RG win was definitely an unforgetable moment :worship: .
... Agassi just has a way of inspiring because it really seemed like he may never win a Slam again-> he had waited patiently for 4-long years since USO Final 95 (lost to Sampras) & last win being AO Final 95 (beat Sampras).
:worship: :worship: How Andre managed to overcome all the obstacles, the bad memories of losing French Open Finals in 1990 & 91, then the 2-sets to love deficit, plus his marriage to Brooke on the rocks.. it was simply fairytale stuff the way he picked himself off the floor to become the 1st Man since the 1970's to win All-4 Slams & only the 5th in History. Andre made the improbable dream a reality. He showed the possibilities with discipline & patience~ what a legend Andre; your French Open win takes the cake :worship:

it would have to be the recent win guga had over federer, only because i did not want to see another "federer won it" kind of tournament. No-one should take offence i like federer's game but its just that i would like a surprise winner, or something of that sort.

Anyway, i stayed up and they brought the final results at 4:30 in the morning, and they brought match point and i started crying when he won and i was yelling around the house FERRERO WON, FERRERO WON. Gaudio def Coria at 2004 RG, one because of the great fightback, and two, for the large amount of rubbish that was being said after the match by bitter, delusional Coria fans making excuses for his loss, and unlike Coria didn't take responsibility for the loss and still discrediting Gaudio, with nothing to back it up with.

Yes, it was enjoyable for those reasons, however it's unfair to say that all of these Coria fans are bitter and delusional with this results, sure there was a large percentage making all these excuses, but at the same time look who is the RG champion and there are some fair Coria fans out there, though cramp is not an injury any doctor will tell you that.

Me too - and also Fernando beating Dent to get the bronze medal earlier in the day. And if Nico Massu can win gold today - that will make me happier than ever! :)

2004 Massu def Fish for the Olympic gold medal.

What cojones Massu showed, he left nothing of himself and winning gold in both the singles and doubles under extreme pressure, that is why it's so special.

Yes - tonight's final is definately added to the list. Massu may not be the greatest player in the world, - but he has guts and courage and when he is playing for his country it adds an extra dimension to his game. If he never wins another major in his life, what he has achieved this week-end will remain with him for life - golden memories that he will never forget. CONGRATS NICO :worship:
