Hewitt vs Gonzalez

Well folks, who's gonna advance to the 4th round? So far Hewitt pulls a Safin and gives some thrill to his home audience, but Gonzo was struggling as well.
What's your opinion then?

Neither been impressive but fancy Gonzalez's power to overcome Hewitt. 2-2 H2H but Gonzo a far better player over the past year. Not easy to call

Gonzalez struggling? Beating Del Potro, even in five isn't struggling.

Gonzo in four.

Pah! I have absolutely no idea!

Should be pretty fascinating...huge contrast in playing styles as well.

Beating Korolev in 4 (incl 2 TB) when you were on the verge of earning a place in Shanghai IS strugling for me
I say Gonzo in 4

I would go for Fernando if he's on but didn't watch him yet so can't really judge.

Have you ever seen Korolev play? He would beat Hewitt in straight sets...

This situation/build-up reminds me of Nole vs Hewitt at US Open last year.

I said Hewitt in 3 then and I'll say Hewitt in 3 now.

Gonzalez is the better player, but he's a Grand Slam midget.

i thought del potro would have won that won
looks like a real youngster comping up
hewitt has struggled in his matches so far,
playing a seasoned veteran like gonzales will be much tougher
I think Gonzolo might get past him

go lleyton!

Hewitt is no guarantee to beat Blake tho either so this matchup may not even eventuate ;)

After struggles against lesser players I think Hewitt can win this one, against Gonzo who he can keep getting the balls back and frustrating him.

Feña in 4 or 5

Hewitt in 4

- night session on RLA
- Lleyton loves to play against big hitters
- Gonzo looks out of form

Hmmm. Too hard to call here. I'd say the playstyle matchup favors Hewitt; however, I think it's anyone game. 4 or 5 setter. 50% chance either takes it.

Gonzalez should take him out, he is in better form. Hope to see a great match.

Hewitt needs to raise his game BUT if he does then this match is ideal for him: Lleyton loves players like Gonzalez [big hitter & weak mentally in Slams]..

Hewitt in 4 close sets..

Loremaster

I agree match-up is perfect for Lleyton

I am sure that this match with end with "COME ON";)

Hewitt in 5.

Fernando's first two matches were too close, and now he's coming up against someone with experience who won't fold.

Gonzo in 3.

I don't have a good feeling about this one for Lleyton.

ps...I would LOVE to be wrong about it!

I'm picking Hewitt in 4.

Unrelated question: was it just me or was the ESPN commentary during Hewitt's match against Dancevic a little anti-Hewitt. Cahill and PMac seemed to be tripping over themselves to see who could slag Hewitt more.

I say Gonzo in 4. If the match were two last years I would say Hewitt in straights, but there's a new Gonzo now and Hewitt is not the same as 2 years ago. ;)

Gonzalez will win if his forehand is on, otherwise Hewitt in 4 or 5.

Gonzo's game play's into Hewitt's hands. Hewitt was won both times they have played on HC and quite handly the last time they played. Also the times they have played on clay have been tight encounters. Hewitt in 4.

Gonzo in 4. Hewitt hasn't seen a forehand like Fena's all tourney.

I think Hewitt will find a way again, this time in 5 sets. I think people are overlooking Lleyton too easily and he's got a shot for the quarters before fatigue and Nadal may overcome him.

I hope ESPN shows that match!

TheHawk
01-19-2007, 08:36 AM
when did gonzalez hit a BIG win?
Well maybe he never did THAT well in slams but he caused quite a few upsets in his career beating the likes of Hewitt and Agassi when they were #1, Roddick, Sampras, Moya, you name it.
