Didn't see anything of this match, but looking at the stats (51 winners, 21 UE's, no break points faced) it was a very solid performance by Querry.
Will most likely meet Robredo next.

quietly going about the business of making the most of his wildcard. hope to see some of his play on telly soon. on paper, this looks like his breakthrough year for him after winning a few challengers last year. truly the AO this year is about the youngsters coming through :).

Interesting result. It's the slam of the youngster so far. The trend continues.

WOOOOHOOOOOOOO SAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Querry :yeah: kep moving quietly. Let them praise Young :tape:who's "them"? Because Sam's fellow players have some preetttttyyyyyyy high praise...

Q. Pretty big group of Americans that have scrapped their way into the second round, some older, some younger, some coming back. What are your thoughts on some of the guys still alive here?

ANDY RODDICK: You want me to go through one by one?

Q. Just a few. Mardy.

ANDY RODDICK: Give me some names.

Q. Mardy, Sam.

ANDY RODDICK: Mardy could always play. That wasn't in doubt. When he's healthy I think he's a top 30 player. So it's not surprising. But he couldn't grip a racquet with his left hand for the better part of a year, so it's just a matter of him getting healthy again. I don't think any of us are shocked to see him doing well, especially on a hard surface.

I think Sam Querrey is a stud. It wouldn't surprise me to see him top 30 by the end of the year. He kind of grew up as an after‑school tennis player. Now all of a sudden he's a damn good player. I've had the opportunity to be with him a lot. He's come to Austin. We actually trained in Hawaii together before we came down here. I think he's going to be a really good player.

-----------------------------------------
:haha:
Q. What is your take on Sam?

JAMES BLAKE: Sam had another big win yesterday. He's a great player. Yeah, didn't even mention him. He's probably our brightest star right now in terms of coming up. His serve is huge. His forehand is huge. It's amazing. The kid cracks me up every single time when I look at him. He was going out to the court yesterday, had a huge hole in his shoe. Sam, change that. Got new shoes in the locker room. Oh, no, it's fine, it will be okay. I'll change my serve a little. Sam, come on.

It's so funny. He's oblivious, just happy to go out there and play. I think as he gets better and better, kind of becomes a little more professional, maybe he shouldn't, I don't know, because it's working great so far, but it's so funny to see he's basically like ‑‑ I mean, it shocks me sometimes to think he's just out of high school, to think how immature I was at that age. He's much more advanced than I was. But how much better he's going to get.

Q. He had a hole in the sole of his shoe?

JAMES BLAKE: No, like in the top. The top had kind of split open. From the back end, he comes over on it too much. His toe was practically popping out. Man, it's so funny to think he's only 18 years old, 19 years old, how much better he's going to get.

I'm looking forward to that, too, to see how much better he's going to get. I think the sky's the limit with him.

Keep it up. I'm looking forward to his next match. He may not win, but it's good to see how he handles it.

If he's this giant server everyone talks about...he has a good shot at beating Boredo...especially if he can, and does, volley

he is on some form, he could really challenge robredo with his big game, he hits some huge shots. he'll be top 50 by the end of the year

It is great to see him work hard and improve, hopefully the bandwagon will not catch too much steam. Robredo is a good matchup for Sam, even not having a good enough volley (yet) he may well prevail.
