They'll probably show it if they have time. If Lindsay/Dechy takes a long time (which I don't see how it possibly could LMFAO) and then Andy/Tim takes a long time (which is entirely possible), there wouldn't be time left, especially because Andy's match isn't immediately after Lindsay's, it has a "not before 2pm" start. So I dunno

Yeah but last time they played on hardcourt, Roddick won in straight set... 9/4 might seem like good value, but it's easy to say now that the match is over. ;)

armaniman
03-19-2004, 11:57 PM
I'm not saying he was good value cos hes won at all....i was shocked at 9/4 with the way tims been playing this week, his serve has been looking good, annacone has got him being more aggressive with it...and as an odds compiler i would have made him evens...but i still thought he had great chance of beating roddick....roddick doesnt capture my imagination at all.....federer does and the hold tim has over him has to end sooner or later...hopefully not this week !

Shy
03-19-2004, 11:58 PM
Somehow,I do think that Roger is wishing deep down that Andy was the one winning in case he was going to the final.

Hmmm. Nah. He doesn't really. Notice his poor record in slams outside of Wimbledon.

Nice to see he's doing well in MS, though. We'll see if this shows up at Wimbledon or the USO. I'm sure it will at Wimbledon, he's pretty much a lock to make the second week there until he retires. Whether or not he can take that extra step, we'll see.

armaniman
03-20-2004, 12:03 AM

Dirk
03-20-2004, 12:08 AM
I think Roger if he makes it to the final would love to play Tim. Roger wants to beat this guy so he knows he can. Roger just has to employ the right tactics against Tim. Tomorrow should be real fun.

asotgod
03-20-2004, 12:09 AM
Good job by Tim to win after making messes in the first and second set. I am not a fan of his, but I am really happy he won because Federer has a chance at him this time. But the problem with Roddick and Federer when they play Tim is that they are hitting short balls at him for returns to his serve and he is using his inside out forehand well before coming to the net. One other thing is that, Tim somewhat confuses both guys to play his own game. Imagine how many times Roddick came to the net and was playing Tim's game against him. Was a close match, but could have ended in straights had Tim held on the way he should have. The better player won. That's it.

But my advice for Roger is to make their returns hard and deep whether he is charging to the net or not, because most times he fools them by pretending to be charging and so they hit short balls to him and then he uses that inside out forehand before coming in. Tim is playing % tennis well. But, the way Hewitt beats him is to use good angles and make the returns deep. Once that is done, Tim cannot control the rallies immediately. Hence, there will be pressure on his serve. So, those guys gotta make the returns hard and deep. Good try by Roddick but he was made to look mediocre at the net. Anyways, good luck to the rest of the players.

SaFed2005
03-20-2004, 12:27 AM
Yeah!!! I was hoping Tim would win... Now it's Blake's turn to win his match...

Neely
03-20-2004, 12:34 AM
Labadze has a good shot to win that match against Blake... he looks rock solid so far! wow!

Sjengster
03-20-2004, 12:50 AM
Well, that rock solidness vanished in the tiebreak, where he won precisely one point on his serve. Interesting... assuming Blake wins this, let's not forget that there will be two pesky Americans holding back the path to a potential Henman-Federer final. asotgod was right about the returns, but Federer really doesn't have the sort of returns to trouble Henman, they're chipped and often end up being short and high for Henman to either volley or pound with the forehand. And that kick serve to Federer's backhand is a nightmare for him.

asotgod
03-20-2004, 01:02 AM
Sjenster,

You are right Federer doesn't have the kind of return. But, he should be able to do that because it's not difficult to hit returns hard and deep, especially towards the center of the court. Agassi and Blake can make those returns but Blake plays too reckless to bother Henman at all. I just hope Federer makes the right adjustment because those blocked balls wont work most times against Henman. The returner must put pressure on him and the passing shots must be crisp. One other thing is that Henman closes to the net so much. He is very susceptible to the lob.

Neely
03-20-2004, 01:10 AM
Sjengster, Labadze is still in there with very good chances considering he made the same against Moyá, against Calleri... nothing special for him to start another comeback out of nothing

Sjengster
03-20-2004, 01:15 AM
I hope so Neely, I think Henman would like playing him after beating Arthurs and Roddick back to back.

The thing is, Federer seems so worried and nervous in his matches with Henman that he isn't comfortable going for more on his returns. He always looks awkward, and that has a lot to do with the fact that so many of his serves are blocked back deep to the baseline by Henman (who BTW does make great use of the lob when Federer's at the net). Bottom line is, Federer never likes having to react to dictation by the opponent and that's what he gets from Henman.

It's possible that he'll turn it around this time, but given Henman's form at the moment it's foolish to say that Federer would beat him comfortably this time. Heck, it's foolish to assume that Federer will beat Agassi tomorrow, the surface still favours the older man and he played pretty well against Coria.

Neely
03-20-2004, 01:16 AM
Labadze with authority.... he leads 4-3
come on now! break him!

BREAK BLAKE, BREAK BLAKE, BREAK BLAKE, BREAK BLAKE, BREAK BLAKE, BREAK BLAKE!!!!

lol, what a jawbreaker *g* :woohoo: :woohoo:

Sjengster
03-20-2004, 01:19 AM
I should also add that Federer will need quite a bit of tactical improvement should they meet again since there was a fair bit of naivety in that Rotterdam match last month; he'd better learn that when you run round your backhand to hit a forehand that goes straight to Henman's down the line slice backhand, then have to run all the way across the court to pick up a shot that's low and skidding away from you, you aren't using the right strategy.

Neely
03-20-2004, 01:25 AM

no sure about THAT.... if I had to make a prediction I would go for Henman, but who knows what Labadze still has in "petto" (can I say that in English?... well I mean what "reserves" Labadze has/if he can play even better than today...)... but normally it should not be enough to beat Henman...

Chris Seahorse
03-20-2004, 03:09 AM
I have to say Labadze`s type of game isn`t really the type I tend to go for. I generally don`t often find myself rooting for out and out power hitters, but one can`t help but be impressed with how well Irakli has put it all together this week. Tennis becomes alot more exciting for me when the unpredictable happens. It is great seeing someone unexpected put his talent together and have a big week. There is no doubt Labadze deserves to be in the semis. As I said in an earlier post, I think he hits the ball as hard as anyone I have ever seen so he was always threat to suddenly have this breakthough. I definitely share Neely`s pleasure for the folks of Georgia. Georgia`s a very small country that hasn`t had a great deal to cheer about sporting-wise. For them to have a bonefide tennis hero is very cool. While the thought of a Henman v Federer final is quite attractive I think Labadze producing a shock Masters win would be even more exciting.

I am bummed that I havent been able to watch any of this tournament on TV thanks to SKY Sports restricting all their coverage of the tournament to the one SKY Sports channel I can`t get. Damn. I would like to see how Irakli has been winning although I imagine it probably comes down to Irakli simply keeping those massive hits of his in the court. I want to see Irakli play again. Last time i watched him (when he played Spadea at the French Open) I had a bet against him so I obviously wasn`t in a mood to take a liking to him but I think it is possible I could, once I see him again, start to become a fan.
