I would like to know if AO is also so tiring for you. In Poland it starst at 1am until 2pm so it is whole night and boring, I am lucky enough being a student so I can watch it because I don't have much lectures. Last night I watched it whole night and when Safin finished his match I slept like 2,5 hours woke up, went to eat something , and to the univerisity (I was sleeping at the lecture  ) and now I have to study because I have some kind of test tomorrow, but I won't sleep whole night again :( still tennis is more important but I am only able to survive beacuse of coffee. And I think it will get only worse as my fav players are in the opposite half so it's day after day and some great matches to follow, time difference is so bad :(.
But there are only four GS so I can handle it :D, at least USOpen and Wimby are during holiday so I can sleep normally

does anyone also has just problems with coverage ??

yes, in the USA it start at 7,6,5 depends where you are, so I stay from 6 to 4 or 5, but yesterday the cocksuckers at espn showed the serena match and then they showed andy roddick replay instead of safin so I went to sleep at like 4...

I had 90 minutes of sleep last night. I stayed up to watch Mauresmo and Federer, found I couldn't sleep so I watched most of Baghdatis and then fell asleep around 05:00 and got up again at just before 06:45 to catch a train.

I've been surprisingly perky today considering and I think I'm up to an hour or so of live coverage tonight before getting some sleep - I want to be up at 08:30 GMT for Murray's match.

This fortnight does kill me but I'm a dedicated little bunny, I totter on.

Here in Argentina the coverage started at about 9:00 PM on sunday and ended at about 11:00 AM monday (they didn't show matches every hour but i followed them on the scoreboard :p  )
So yeah, it's pretty tiresome.

The good thing is that most of the people are on holidays now, so it isn't THAT bad

I didn't sleep the night before due to tennis, and the night before I got very little sleep. So yeah, A LOT of Red Bull was needed to get me through that exam!

yeah Red Bull is great, But I don't drink it it ruins your health in express way, after friend of mine told me that she can make it in her chemistry laboratory + some flavour chemicals I don't drink it. She told me that it ruins body. Coffee is also not so good but it's natural. And I drink it only during slams exams so impact on body will be minor.

Now you know how the australians feel for the other 10 months of the year.

Exactly. It's only 2 weeks of the year for us, we can cope fine, and actually it's rather exciting being able to watch and follow tennis live into the small hours. OK, this may be the viewpoint of a student who's used to late nights, but I don't usually go all the way through till late morning - I packed it in at 5am today and then didn't get up till early afternoon. I missed some good matches of course, but saw enough to be satisfied.

I see it as a sport all on it's own to catch as much tennis live as possible.

Damn right! They wanted it banned over here, I only drink it if I reallllly have to and today was one of those days (although the exam was a piece of cake in the end so I maybe could of escaped without it).b

Red Bull is practically poison in a can. :o

The best thing to help you stay awake is green tea. Antioxidants, bioflavonoids, vitamins, and it would take six to eight cups of the stuff to get the same amount of caffeine in a single cup of coffee. :yeah: It doesn't sound strong enough to keep you awake, but when that's your only source of caffeine (along with dark chocolate :tape: ), it's potent enough.

(I prefer Japanese green teas over Chinese ones, as the Japanese ones taste more raw/leafy/grain-creamy, whereas the Chinese ones tend to be more acrid/mineral/metallic.)

[/tea rant] :o

I should try this Tea(it sounds good) Thanks for advice:worship:

But it's 0.30 am in Poland so I will try it today but later when the coverage will end

Not bad to start things off with a 20-18 tiebreak last night, as the first live tennis I've seen since the DC final it brought back those familiar heart-pumping moments that make tennis such a joy. Ah, I could write a book on this, it seems!

I live on the US east coast, so yes it’s killing me. I don’t know why they can’t play the AO in Miami Beach, Florida. The weather in Miami Beach in the winter is about the same as Melbourne in the summer and the women are way hotter. Plus the Serbs and Croats are generally too stoned to fight. Seems like a no-brainer

As for gay men, who knows! As interested as they are in "dorks" all the gay men I've dated have been nowhere near as interested in marine life as I've been, but then again, I'm studying marine life at uni at the moment.

You shouldn't be that knowledgeable about the obvious pursuit in your position, should you? ;)

I thought of being a marine biologist when I was about half my present age, but the combination of my dislike for water and my inability to swim made it seem a rather unrealistic prospect.

Oh indeedy, now is the time to make hay as far as irresponsible tennis viewing is concerned. But the AO is one of those events that you can probably keep on watching irrespective of female consent as it's in the middle of the night, it's the other three Slams on during daylight hours that you have to worry about. ;)

WTASport have a contract with the women's tour, ergo the saturation-level WTA coverage. I remember I first started following tennis outside the Slams regularly during the European indoor season of 2001 when Eurosport covered nearly every ATP event thoroughly, Lyon, Stockholm, Vienna, Basel... they even had decent coverage from Barcelona which they don't now.

It depresses me no end to think that I share a birthday with Sharapova, I wonder what else we might have in common that I'm not aware of.

I am happy to follow almost all tennis, because Eurosport shows three GS some ATP tournaments (Doha, Dubai, San Jose , Quenns, Vienna) but luckily in Poland there is private national broadcaster who shows all TMS, some other ATP tournaments (the showed Kooyong and Auckland so far because it is first season they shows normal ATP tournaments ) + Wimbledon + TMC

Ironically enough, I'll bet she's as quiet as a church mouse in that, uh, rather more intimate setting. These blonde toothpicks aren't remotely attractive though, and the look seems to be proliferating. Yesterday I saw a shot of Vaidisova from behind and there was almost nothing to distinguish her from Sharapova, besides from perhaps a little more flesh on the shoulders. The same long hair dismissively flicked away, the same irritatingly imperious gait, the same garish and flimsy dress.... identikit stuff.

That too. In fact that's rather more important than a similarity in their looks, before I wander too far down the path of shallowness. Ah, give me the endearing grunt and combative attitude of Fran Schiavone anyday, now that woman is pure entertainment.

Maybe she is quiet , I always found it hard to understand how Nadal is so explosive on court and so shy off court it was strange for me.
Yeah I agree about Sharapova and Vaidisova and I don't understand why she is loved my men. There tons of girls like that. That;s why I like to watch Kirilenko she is awesome on really nice off cout, Golovin and Hantuchova(she looks like first class model ).

A lot of health nuts in here, that's good to see. Nobody does speed anymore? :tape: Espresso/Cappuccino or Red Bull was my choice of poison in college when doing all-nighters.

AO's a killa but it's not as bad as Wimbledon. Wimbledon is worse because the coverage here is practically all day and then all night, and then there are extras like the Breakfast at Wimbledon and nightly recap/preview shows (AO doesn't have previews or recaps; I wish they did), plus they insist on showing a lot more women's matches than AO does.

That's why I don't like WTA 99% of players play the same hit hard, harder and harder and who is stronger/more lucky wins. That's why I love to watch players like Hingis or Radwanska play because they care about point construction and tactic to win matches, I love when they kick ass of these hard hitters. However, next week I am due to undergo surgery so provided I will have a TV in the hospital with cable chances are I will be in too much pain to sleep the night through. So assuming I have earphones I can stay awake all night and watch the tennis. (lucky me  )

I'm like you Ron. Matches start at midnight here and go on til roughly mid-day the following day, so as I work and can't afford to lose my job, I don't see much at all apart from weekends  Physically I just can't survive on 2 or 3 hours' sleep - it would make me ill. I did take yesterday off as holiday (and was lucky enough to see that great Safin/Becker match), but usually all I see is an hour while I'm having my breakfast. And then today I got up at 5.00am (two hours earlier than usual) to try and follow a bit, only to find the heat rule means all the matches I wanted to follow haven't started anyway and I can't follow them from work so it's all completely f***** up  Good luck with the surgery by the way

Yes. Student as well. Sleeping from around 6 till midnight and then watching tennis until lectures begin in the morning

I never go to sleep before 2-3am anyway, so it's quite easy and enjoyable to stay up. Last night I went to sleep at 4, because they weren't showing the matches I wanted to see.

I find it a little bit annoying, because with the US Open, I am able to watch the whole coverage and stay up till 5-7am (or when ever the coverage is completed). AO Is a challenge, because there is no way you can stay up for the full coverage during the day session, and then the night = No sleep at all. It's a choice really of which you want to see.

Addiction kills ;)

Anyway I have slept 5h since Sunday 11 am. and today won't be better cos some great matches are coming up. Yesterday was deadly from the first match until end of Hewitt's match then to the univerisity and now I returned home ouch , I barely could sit on last lectures, I was on the verge of sleeping several times.

Today I am starting 2.30 p.m in Australia to catch up Roddick-Gicquel and then Marcos-Monfils.
But today matches are not so great so I will sleep like 6h :)

But I hve tried green tea and it's great , so I've already prepared cofee, green tea, bananas and Soda water for the night

Well, happily joining in with my experiences so far.

To answer the question: might well be that my friends will have to buy a coffin for me when the AO is finished and both Rogi and Rafa managed to reach the final!

Yesterday night was a real toughie - of course I didn't want to miss Rafa's match (and I'm real happy I didn't!) but ayeayeaye, Shutupova...
So it was around 5:00 AM when Rafa finally got on court...
I spent the whole day in bed and I've only just manage to revive myself.

Tonight, same story I fear... what a lucky bum I am, cheering for both the #1 and #2 seed!!!

Well, everyone - much fun and strength to you for the coming nights!

i can't be bothered to stay up all night to watch it on week nights but i will at the weekend. anyway at the moment coverage goes on to 1pm here, so even if i wake up at 7am i would still have plenty of tennis to watch, if i didnt have to leave at 8am. i just tend to watch the highlights shows

matches start at 1AM here and I got to wake up at 5:45 during the week! so I record matches onto my dvd recorder and watch them the other day! obviously, it's without the "live feeling" to it but I don't really care.

I remember the AO 06, I was watching matches all night and slept during the day.. It seriously killed me. And I don't feel like doing it that way again.

For the Semi's and the Final, I will watch tennis all night, drink beers, get high. whatever. but besides that it'll be enough for me to record matches.

I don't know how you'd handle the stress. The mere thought of a Safin/Nadal match in the early rounds of...some tournament at the end of last year (can't remember which) had me in a tizzy. But then things got moved around and it didn't happen. A final? I'd die. I'd be happy, but I'd die of the stress.

As for AO, yes it is killing me. The last two nights I've been staying up as long as I can justify it, til about 2 to watch Baggy Sunday night and about the same to watch Rafa last night, then getting up for work at about 6. And it's killing me. I'm too old for this no sleeping malarkey.

:D How I handle my so dearly wanted Ultimate Beloved-Final Stress? Oh dear. Perhaps I should've written a manual on that after the first half of 2006! ;) All I can say is that it is a kind of 'rainbow'-feeling, cheering for the one and crying for the other at the same time...
