I think ESPN might have some technical difficulties and have the message we are doing our best to fix the problem and bang on 7pm there will be tennis coverage shown.

Very true rassklovn.

Could you imagine the scenario the fans have seen the players warm up and just as about they are going to call time then the TV screen goes blank.

People ringing the ESPN call centre actually that technically should be busy as hell. but would probably only be 2 people in the queue they are on hold for 3 hours and have been passed around to 5 different people to find out the source of the problem.

1. The first one says it's because of windy weather.
2. Someone has cut the cable when they were doing maintenance work.
3. It's not just you, it's a nationwide problem. Then you ring your friend who lives in another state and they have coverage.
4. We will have the coverage back soon, but we will be going to World Pig Steeplechase Championships in Mudlick Kentucky which will go to 7pm.
5. We are the ones who have the most comprehensive tennis coverage ( for some people), so you can't take your business elsewhere.

Enough of the scenarios come on Roger and Guille.

There will be technical problem with live coverage but ESPN will replay the Roddick/Escude match and if still not enough, the Roddick/Safin match, then Agassi/Hrbaty match and so on....

They could always show the Golden Summer where Roddick was the king of the North American hardcourts.

Though if I was in the booth I would switch the tapes with Roddick's greatest claycourt victories in Europe. To be fair they could show that Roddick/Chang match at the FO and I would be far from disappointed.

Do they show any tennis after Agassi gets eliminated? He is usually the last American left in these champs.

But there are so many better RG matches than this one, then again we have to look at the market don't we.

GWH, it's ESPN Classic, not tennis classic ;)

The coverage for RG is less than Wimbly or USO. There weren't lots of LIVE coverage, if I remember correctly.

Sure thing :) Federer held serve, mostly from errors by Chela, Federer hit a couple errors that's how Chela got the -30

now Chela serves, Roger backhand into net 15-0

Deboogle!.
03-18-2004, 09:36 PM
15-15 Chela DF
15-30 rally with FH DTL winner by Roger
PMac calls Roger "cat-like"
15-40 Roger gets Chela off-balance with good forehand, 2 BP

Game Roger, bad error from Chela

Roger serving

15-0 service winner
15-15 nice passing shot by Chela, Roger volley into net
15-30 DF
30-30 good FH Roger, forces Chela to hit it out
40-30 service winner
40-40 UE Roger just out wide (8 already)
Ad Chela BP - another UE Roger
Deuce - nice FH winner
AD Roger - BH error into net, Chela
Deuce - Volley out long, "sloppy" (says PMac), 10th UE (to 3 from Chela)
AD Roger - crazy rally, overhead winner
Deuce, FH UE into net
AD Roger - mishit backhand error out, Chela
Deuce - huge FH return winner off 2nd serve
AD Roger - big FH DTL winner
Game Roger - service winner

Never seen Chela before. He moves well and runs around his BH a lot. Not great returns, but gets most of Roger's serves, even many good ones, back into play which is helping him.

Deboogle!.
03-18-2004, 09:51 PM

I hope so, but I don't know, Chela seems to be playing pretty well too...

Deboogle!.
03-18-2004, 09:57 PM
Chela to serve at 2-3 on serve

0-15 close error on FH DTL, Chela doesn't like call but Shot Spot confirms out
15-15 very poor BH into bottom of net from Roger
15-30 FH Mishit error from Chela
30-30 good first service winner
40-30 Roger FH into net :o
Deuce - good return on second serve forces error
AD Chela - bad overhit forehand error, several feet long, 14th UE Roger
Deuce - Chela BH long
AD Roger, BP - good passing shot Chela couldn't get to it
Game Roger, bad error Chela on easy shot

Roger serves 4-2

Most of the errors are pretty bad Lceh, not what I'd call forced

15-0 Roger S-V on second serve, Chela had passing shot and put it into the net
30-0 Chela misses FH DTL, tough shot to make
40-0 nice shot Roger
40-15 Roger comes in and Chela smacks BH Crosscourt return winner past him

Game Roger, service winner Chela serves at 2-5

0-15 good point starting w/good return from Roger, then FH winner
0-30 don't know what happened they were showing ShotSpot stuff
0-40 good shots force error from Chela, 3 SP, roger seems to be finding rhythm

Game, first set Roger, huge return winner off of really poor second serve

1st set stats
10 winners, 14UE for Roger
4/10 for Chela

0-15 good defense from Roger, Chela FH out
15-15 good forehand, Roger can't get it back
30-15 great passing shot winner BH
40-15 service winner
40-30 Chela hits a puny shot at net and Roger jumps on it for FH winner
Deuce - big FH DTL Roger

Chela's first serve % was really high at the beginning, going down I think and it's hurting him, Roger jumping on second serve

AD Roger, BP - FH into net by Chela
Game Roger, another FH into bottom of net :o

not many people there at all

0-15 passing shot winner from Roger. Chela should avoid the net like the plague. He might make Andy look good up there.
0-30 overhead putaway. Chela's really flat out there now.
15-30 Roger's return a little long, actually shot spot shows it barely grazed the line :o
15-40 really really long rally, ends in big FH winner from Roger
30-40 service winner
Deuce - Roger error into net
AD Roger - Chela bad BH into net :o How did this guy beat Lleyton?
Deuce - FH error Roger off a short ball
AD Roger - great return FH winner right in corner
Deuce - Roger's return out, Chela's 1st serve % HAS to be down now. He's missing a lot.

Hmm well probably, but I don't know. The way Roger played in the first set, a better player would have made it closer (Can't say Roger would've lost it but closer at least). He did calm down and play much much better in the second, but Chela did help with errors.

He'll probably always start slowly, partly because he evaluates how his opponent is going to play in the first few games. So even if it's someone he's played a lot, he'll still be sounding them out at the beginning. I suppose a player like Roddick seems to start quicker, because he can just slam down a few aces whilst he's working out how the other guy's going to play.

But still, Roger losing his serve after he'd got the break was a bit

Roger said in his post-match interview that Andre is his toughest opponent, and while he has beaten him the last two ATP matches, Agassi beat him soundly at Kooyong. And he said he has never played Coria, except back in 98 when he beat Guille in juniors.

Bunk Chela did make some errors and a lot in the 2nd set, but Roger was just whipping out all of his variety and was patient in the rallies. Chela just cracked first. Roger was returning so deadly and serving deadly after the mid point in the 1st set. Chela wasn't playing badly really, Roger just broke him down. Chela was doing great in the rallies but Roger just man was unbelievable. Shame for Chela to lose this way after such a great event, but he is has a lot to be proud of.

Keep it up Rogi!!!

03-18-2004, 11:28 PM
well Dirk obviously we will see something a little different lol. Chela gave him easy points at important times. But yes Roger played great from the middle of the first on through the second, I'm not denying that at all. I don't really care about either player so I have no motivation to be biased in any way lol.

jtipson, I was just thinking out loud about whether if Roger had a coach he wouldn't *have* to feel out his opponents so much. It obviously doesn't seem to be affecting him at all, but it's just my mind wandering lol. As for Andy being a fast starter.... not really! It's not uncommon at all for him to drop his opening serve game.

Anyway, you guys are again very welcome.

i don't think his slow start can be sttributed to his lack of coach. even when he had a coach he always started slow. It is impossible to no how your opponent id going to play from just viewing scouting reports on that player because they can also change their own approach depending on who they are playing. I think it is important doing his matches against tougher opponents that he always try to keep hi serve while assessing his opponent or else he can get in serious trouble.

Domination, even if only for a few weeks as it was in Roddicks case, is very boring. Hideous in Petes case, thank goodness I wasn't a big tennis fan during his reign. I might have had to pick a new sport to follow.

It will be different come clay season, me thinks. Federer obviously has the skill to win MS on clay and go far at RG, but there are more guys who can beat him there, or at least give him a match.

Federer won't be dominating in the clay season, he will probably win a tournament on clay, but there are at least 10-15 guys who could beat him or at least give him a lot of trouble. Then again he has to get over 2 RG 1R exits.

1) Don't say stupid things that would make me think "gee, that was a stupid thing to say"

and,

2) Don't post them on a public board where I have to read them.

Speaking of hypocracy, you can't really tell me not to tell you what to do and then turn around and do the same thing to me. Nice try though :yeah:

True.

If you would like to demonstrate zero reading comprehension and come across as a complete fucking idiot, that really is your choice.

Although there is a difference between the two senarios. You were telling me what I should or should not reply to, and to that I gave you a big old "fucking eat it". You, on the other hand, were completely misreading my posts, and I asked you to you know, READ them before responding. This was a pretty fair request. But again... it is your choice to be stupid. Not mine.

Right, because they look SO much alike.

Anyways, this is a respectable scoreline, and that is what I was looking for this evening. Good for Coria, you'll get him at RG if you meet.

Becca do you really think I care if you think I'm stupid? If your calling me stupid helps you build your own ego then I'm happy to oblige. Luckily you're not on the admissions panels of the law schools I applied to. They're about the only people I care about right now whether they think I'm intelligent or not.

I'm sorry, somebody seems to given you the impression that mentioning "law school" impresses me. I know many an idiot who is going to go to Grad school, bunk. Colour me unimpressed.

Bunk... if you were truly non offended by anything that I said, you would not feel the need to interject "oh yeah, well I'm going to go to LAW SCHOOL, so I can't be stupid", into the conversation.

Whether or not I'm "getting to you"... I really don't give a fuck. I'm just sort of posting as I please here. If you don't respond, I just post about something else.

Not everything is about you, you know :) Sometimes it's just about me being bored.

I'm off to sleep. Early day tomorrow. Rah to that.

Good fight from Coria, so far as my scoreboard can tell me. If he's playing like this on hard, I see no reason for him not to rip it up on the dirt in a couple of months.

Much like that stupid assumption you made about bunk, Georgie, and plenty of other erroneous ones you make about me. How does it feel? :p

Can we move on and talk about the MATCH now? :o

Just remember who called me a Nazi without any proof that I said anything about supporting or glorifying the final solution, torture camps, gas chambers, eugenics, anti-Jewish comments, slave camps please try and find examples.

What comment are you refering to about bunk? Unlike you I don't like to make assumptions of people on message boards. Though you do provide me with great entertainment.

Well played Agassi and hopefully it will be an interesting match against Federer, but come on Federer beat him and improve your H2H record against Agassi.

When does Blake play? Georgie, are you going to be here to cheer Blake on? Because I've never seen or heard you cheer on an American before that's something I gotta see to believe. ;)

Considering I don't live in the US, and I wouldn't go to Indian Wells even if you paid for me.

Btw, it's happened before the only thing is that most of the Americans I like have retired, so I have already proven your theory incorrect, wow how proud I am of that.

I know several people, Wyver, who do not find watching Federer to be an exciting/fun/enjoyable experience. The posters on this board are not a complete and exhaustive representation of all opinions in the tennis-loving world.

and can we please not use the word Nazi here??? It's a very sensitive topic for some people and GWH no one should have called you that. but on the other hand you had to realize that picking the name you did when you joined this group might ruffle some feathers. I don't like Bush or his policies any more than you do, I bet, but seeing your username is still upsetting and I cannot help that.

Well duh, I mean I could say I don't get people who don't find watching Andy fun (I didn't say like his game, I said find watching him fun) but obviously not everyone does just because I do. If all players played with the same style of play and had the same personalities, tennis would be treacherously boring.

I did say your "the first person I know who finds Roger's game boring"

that is I have never heard his game being called boring before on the net or in real life, I know a few people who hate Roger just as passionately as you hate a particular duck but they still say his gamestyle is very exciting

OK I didn't say Roger's GAME is boring. I get bored watching Roger play. But sure, he is talented and hits great shots. But the experience just puts me to sleep. I was so bored this afternoon, the only reason I left the game on was to do the point-by-point for those here who couldn't see the match.

I think to be fair Roger's game can be boring anytime if he played like crap eg in the first few game today, all those errors. Or the match can be boring too something like the one vs Gonzalez. But I personally find it hard to comprehend if some would still find his game boring when he played so brilliantly. I'm certainly not saying that only because I'm Fed fan. He's still the very few one whom I can enjoy watching even if the results are so one-sided.

Well and that's how I feel about Andy. I love all the aces and forehands and overheads and athleticism and emotions and humor. It's just a very different style and very much a matter of personal preference. What's interesting is that some (I repeat, SOME certainly not all) of the Roger fans suggest that one cannot be a true tennis fan if you don't love to watch Roger. That's just ridiculous!

I can understand that which is why I'm always giving myself another go with any of Andy's match showing on TV. I'm just suggesting that since you like watching tennis so much, just be a bit open minded watching Rogi's game next time, you might be able to get something out of it.

Just a thought nothing more. Ok, off for work, bye!

Let's guess which American players George likes. I know he hates Conners (here here :bounce: ) Courier(?) I am going to say he liked him because Jim was a workhorse and made the most of his little talent and career. I think George also liked Ashe too (how can you not after what he did to union rebel Conners at Wimbly  ) I think he also likes Mac and..... ok that is all I can come up with.

How right am I?

It is easy to take Roger's game for granted but players like him come around very rarely.......maybe once in 50 years?

Of course being talented and succesful are very different
