Poor Carlos Moya:sad:
...
He seems to like playing in Australia & naturally has many fans Down Under, plus the Rebound Ace courts seem to suit his game~> & yet he`s never won anything in AUS:eek: :sad:
...
Consider how close Moya has come to tasting victory in AUS:

1997: Sydney Finalist [lost to Tiger Tim]:eek:
1997: AO Finalist [lost to Sampras]:sad:
..
2003: Davis Cup finalist with Spain [never allowed to play the 5th rubber because Ferrero went down to Philippoussis in 5-sets]:angel:

2004: Sydney Finalist [lost to Hewitt~ Carlos retired injured]:sad:
2007: Sydney Finalist [lost to Blake]:sad:
***
So Moya has contested or been a part of 5-Finals in AUS but unfortunately for him he lost every time:mad:

...Then to add insult to injury he`s handed a horror 1st Rd draw at AO~ where he has to play 5th seed Blake [atleast Carlos got some practice in Sydney]..

Here`s Moya`s list of close calls [lost finals]: NEW RECORD~> for the most successive years losing a final somewhere??[12-years straight]...

1996--Bucharest, Munich;
1997--Amsterdam, Australian Open, Bournemouth, Indianapolis, Sydney;
1998--Mallorca, Singles Championship;
1999--Indian Wells;
2000--Toulouse;
2001--Barcelona;
2002--Hong Kong, Monte Carlo TMS;
2003--Miami TMS, Vienna;
2004--Buenos Aires, Sydney;
2005--Umag;
2006--Chennai
2007--Sydney

Most of my threads aren`t supposed to be 100% serious;)
Consider that tennis is just a sport & naturally fun:cool: ~ so I sometimes go overboard just for fun;)

Anyway it would have been nice for Moya to have won today`s Sydney final considering he`s played so well in AUS & deserves atleast one winners trophy on Rebound Ace for all his warrior efforts:angel:

:yeah: So right Carlita ! :hug:
Carlos has always been a great player and a great man, and he'll always be ! He's achieved so many great things in his career already, and he may surprise you again in the future ! Who cares if he didn't get his trophies down under ?? There are plenty of places where to get trophies appart from Aussie :haha:

Moya`s record in finals fell to 19/21:eek: [rare for a top player to win less than 50% of the finals they contest]... So if he`d won today he would have improved to 20/20... that sounds better doesn`t it;) ~>> Of course it`s not only AUS where Moya loses finals [he`s lost them all over the World:sad: ].

I mean don`t take me 100% seriously;)

Yet I still have something I want to say [that is that Moya has been unlucky playing big matches in AUS:sad: ].

Here`s a bit more on Moya from the atp website><..

Moya slipped to a 15-9 record in Sydney, where he was a runner-up in 1997 (l. to Henman) and 2004 (to Hewitt).

The Spaniard was trying to become the first player 30 or older to win an ATP title since Thomas Johansson earned the crown at St. Petersburg in October 2005 at the age of 30.

Moya, whose 508 career match wins is the most of any active ATP player, also was also attempting to become the first active player to win a title on five continents.

Moya has a career record of 19-21 in finals. His 19 titles put him fifth among active players (tied for 36th in the Open Era with Enqvist). Ahead of him sit Federer with 45, Hewitt with 25, Roddick with 21 and Kuerten with 20. Moya’s first final came at Buenos Aires in 1995, when he beat Mantilla to take home the trophy.

#^^#. So if Moya had won today he would have been the 1st active player to win tourneys on 5-continents [not even Federer has been able to accomplish that yet]->> just another reason it eas a pity Carlos lost the Sydney final..

:wavey:
Oh yeah ~ sorry mate:cool:
...
I think the ATP tour considers "active player" to mean `players who are actively playing tennis`~>> maybe they thought Schalken didn`t qualify:confused: :p

I find it more believable that they simply forgot about him. :p

Moyas one of those players who are still a joy to watch even in the end of his career. I would have liked to see him win today but he has great look back at

did you just make a thread to highlight the fact that Carlos Moya has lost in finals?

what a shocker.

:wavey:

1. 1996--Bucharest, Munich;
2. 1997--Amsterdam, Australian Open, Bournemouth, Indianapolis, Sydney;
3. 1998--Mallorca, Singles Championship;
4. 1999--Indian Wells;
5. 2000--Toulouse;
6. 2001--Barcelona;
7. 2002--Hong Kong, Monte Carlo TMS;
8. 2003--Miami TMS, Vienna;
9. 2004--Buenos Aires, Sydney;
10. 2005--Umag;
11. 2006--Chennai
12. 2007--Sydney

:p ~Not to highlight the fact that Moya loses finals but rather that he`s lost atleast one final for each of the past 12-successive years:eek: , got a feeling that`s a NEW RECORD in an infamous kind of way:sad:

Lendl lost in at least one final a year from 79 to 94. A span of 16 years. Moya will need to play till 2011 to match that.
