The "Quest for #1" Thread

:devil:

Ok, since we know that taking the #1 away from the most dominant player in the Open Era (some guy named Federer, maybe you've heard of him, he sounds vaguely familiar to me :shrug: ) will be tough, i want to make a little list of the points spread, and other considerations needed to wrestle the spot from the grasp of the mighty Fed. :p

Alright, without further ado:

Current Ranking as of 1/29/07: Federer- 8120, Nadal- 4775. Difference of: 3345 points

Last week, for ranking date of 1/29/07: Lost in QF of AO to Forehando :hug: to both

This week's outlook, for ranking date of 2/5/07: Nothing :shrug:

I actually love this thread (hey, I'm new *waves* )
Good to keep track on when it's finally time for Rafa to pass by that Swiss and get the position he deserves
I REALLY hope it's gonna happen this year but then Rafa should be 100% healthy and Roger get injured, which doesn't sound like the scenario as it is now

whoever gets the No1 slot from federer should do it from a healthy Federer not an injured one! Otherwise it'd be an anticlimax and the number 1 wouldn't mean as much, becuase everyone would be thinking " yeah you're number 1, but your only so, cause the real number 1 is injured!"

That's true for sure and I don't wish that Roger gets injured haha
but I want Rafa to get that number one position so badly :D

Jeebus...!

Rafa's already suffering way too much from all the ridiculuous high expectations set on him, no?
At least, that's what I think. No offense meant or whatsoever....

its week by week, love, its not like im predicting him to win anything and everything under the sun, while Federer loses 1st round all over the place ;)

I still believe in miracles!

Let's all have hope and believe that this year will be Rafa's even if the start wasn't good at all. ;)

I's really like for Rafa to be #1... but I doubt if he's gonna make it.. Fed is too good :o but I like Roger so it's not too bad;)

Let's just see what happens, and not contribute to the (over)hyping too much, I'd say. Hoping for him to do very well, of course!

well, a good performance, he made up 250 points on Fed with his QF appearance. He plays DC next, im sure his injury will be ok. (btw, doesnt he always seem to be hurting somewhere? :awww: ) Then, hes got Marseille, where he is defending 90 semifinalist points, with the opportunity to gain 110 with a win :wavey:

I like the idea of him being #1 :)

But...I hope he realizes that we aren't pressuring him. When it happens, it happens. If not, that's okay too.

Hopefully he picks up his level on the hardcourts this year.

A lot of points he can still gain.

Just me saying, I hope Rafa keeps his confidence and continues with working on his game - whatever it takes.

I think its time to bump this thread, as he has had some good results thus far this year.

at the moment:

Federer= 7515
Nadal=5225

Since Federer pulled out of Halle, he loses 225 points, bringing his total down to 7290. If Rafa makes the final of Queens, he would have 5325, closing the gap to under 2000 points :eek:

If he wins it, he has 5395, closing the gap to 1895 :banana: :bounce:

I do a thread in the Federer forum, where you can easily follow the points. Rafa fans can check it out too!

well it is 2065 after the QF loss to mahut

now take care --- the gap may become even bigger if rafa doesnt defend his wimby points ;(

i am not too worrying about this no.1 quest, roger is still dominating, may be rafa has to wait till 2009 :mad: but so long as he continues to win more slams, i am satisfied, its no point to remain as no.1, for say, just 1-2 weeks like moya or Rios and with just 1/o slams, then no.2 but more slams and titles :D

I'm not worried. :) Even if he were to crash out in R1, which hopefully won't happen, he's already got 755 points more than in 2006 at this time. 2006:: 2975 pts, 2007:: 3730 pts.

And he has only 1495 points to defend during the rest of the season, including the 700 at Wimbly. :)

Just stay focused on the Slams and the Master Series. And realistically it is going to be hard for him to defend all those points on grass this year. B/c of the surface some big hitter who has nothing but a serve could get hot and take him out. We will see, he is one of the very few that has a small chance of taking out Roger though, the problem is going to be getting to him though.
