Clement, Grosjean Claim Doubles Title

French duo Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean captured their first ATP Masters Series shield together with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Zimbabwe’s Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett in the final of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.

Clement and Grosjean, who stunned top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in the second round as well as two-time champions Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor in the semifinals, were playing in their first tournament together since Lyon in 2003.

It was Clement and Grosjean’s second doubles title as a team, having won in Casablanca in 2000. Clement now has won three career doubles titles, while Grosjean has won four.

“We’ve really enjoyed playing together this week,” said Grosjean. “It was the first time we’ve played together this year. We’ve beaten the No. 1 team so we didn’t have any pressure coming into the final. We had our chances in the second set, but fought back in the third to win the match.”

Black and Ullyett were attempting to win their first ATP Masters Series shield together, having previously lost in finals in Madrid (2003) and Rome (2002). The former US Open champions last picked up a trophy in Munich on clay last year. Black was attempting to win his second title in Indian Wells, having teamed with Sandon Stolle to defeat Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach in 1999.

oh dear marine, can't open the pics :( if they are getty images, i suppose i can find them using irish's search method ??

oh yeesss i hope too that arnaud and seb will play more together in doubles..... arnaud's dearest wish must be to win the roland garros doubles..... however we all know what seb's wish is (see marine's signature, lol)

esther you have to speak to seb a bit more about that ;)

03-21-2004, 09:51 PM
Try that
http://editorial.****************/source/CFW/imageResults.aspx?s=EventImagesSearchState|1|15|1| 3105157|0|0|0|0|&p=2

03-22-2004, 10:10 PM
thanks marine :D

does this victory get much media coverage back in france??

i think we have almost forgotten that it wasn't just esther who had helped to bring about this great victory... lol... but also michelle who was on location to cheer them on at the start of the tournament. (even if all she did was poking fun at arnaud's golf ;)

03-23-2004, 01:35 AM
Same question as Via...are Seb and Arnaud as popular over there as what Hewitt is here?

Are the French just going off at their victory?!!

And those photos made me gasp!

Thanks so much for sharing them!

03-23-2004, 01:46 AM
Also, I just discovered that if you type Grosjean into the search options then some other photos of him at Indian Wells come up that I didn't find before. http://editorial.****************/source/CFW/imageResults.aspx?s=ImagesSearchState|0|15|0|1|||0 |0|0|0|2|grosjean&p=2 See if that works. the more pics the better!

03-23-2004, 01:48 AM
And note also, that some of the photos of Grosjean/Clement are incorrectly titled Black/Ullyett.

03-23-2004, 05:09 AM
yes.... it amuses me that some people couldn't tell the two pairs apart! there's either a very ignorant sports photographer, or a very ignorant sports page editor..... unforgivable ......

03-23-2004, 12:56 PM
Just a quick report from Miami day one (qualies.)

Got to see Nono practicing yesterday with Nico Escude. I didn't get to take pictures because a.) they were on the far court, which made the zoom worthless and b.) I was chasing around three small children who were behaving like wild indians. But Nono looked very relaxed and happy from what I could tell.

But FotoGordon got some lovely shirtless Nono shots - got to see them already since he's with digiSLR :)

And since this is also a French thread...I took some nice Benneteau shots at his match as well. :) He's a cutie pie!

I learned a very important lesson yesterday: under NO circumstances will ALL three of my children attend tennis with me!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw virtually NO tennis and ended up spending the US mint for food. I will be back at the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday sans les enfants and will have camera in hand.

Hey Esther, I met Todd Reid's father! I thought of you, LOLOLOL.

03-23-2004, 04:07 PM
Hello my dear! I owe you an email, will get my finger out before you get back.

Les enfants have their uses, maybe just one at a time? :) Have fun and *platonic kisses* for Gordon. His Montreal photos were delicious, even with camera dramas.

What's the Todd Reid story? What did I miss?

03-23-2004, 10:08 PM
esther you have to speak to seb a bit more about that ;)

haha i will wont i ;)

michelle- u thought of me?!! ewww why?!! LOL

03-24-2004, 04:10 AM
michelle, only a while ago you said it's an advantage to have a child with you, for getting autographs and starting a conversation etc... lol aren't they gonna miss you when you go out to have fun on your own? ;)

yeah i'm sure gordon has all the best equipment lol.... his passion for bare tennis bodies exceeds any other that i've seen so far.... the investment is all worth it i'm sure

03-26-2004, 12:45 AM
Esther, because every time you see his name, you write "ewwwwww." And that is what I thought when I saw hime and chatted with his father...

One kid getting autographs is fine, but the whole brood creates far too much mayhem for me.

I skipped the tennis today since it was too rainy anyway. But I did have a BLAST at the Benneteau match (ok and since word is that DiP cut his hair, I guess I'll just have Julien's locks to adore) Met some nice people, Ollie R.'s coach, a lovely Frenchman and former player.... Julien dug it out and fought hard to win that match. ALLEZ!

Nobody practiced that was even worth my while, so no Seb sightings or Nono sightings. (given the nature of this forum, I don't think you are all Argie fans, so my pics of Gaudio and Calleri are of no interest...)

I am debating going back to watch doubles sometime next week.

03-26-2004, 02:09 AM
that's it, michelle? *a little disappointed* so rain was stopping play?

03-26-2004, 11:13 PM
Gaston here please! Merci Merci! (or should that be.... Gracias!)

He's on my "maybe" list since I found out he is petit. :p

03-27-2004, 01:52 AM
arnaud and seb are again entering the doubles in miami !!!!! i can't believe it

will be up against the argentinians arnold and calleri in the first round. (luckily for the americans i don't think any commentator will be calling this match)

03-27-2004, 01:55 AM
gaston is the one with the moles.... will never be on my list if only for that !!!

03-27-2004, 05:37 AM
haha they are playing doubles together again hey?! how cute is that. ALLEZ!!! how exciting GO WATCH THEM MICHELLE!

03-27-2004, 07:29 AM
