That's a great line-up.

Guga vs (potentially) Dent
Lleyton vs Johansson
Paradorn vs Haas
Ginepri vs Blake
Ancic vs Sargsian (I'd like to see this one)
Mark P vs Youhzny

You can tell the standard of play when Robredo vs Corretja is put on Court 8.

It's not a bad line-up, but it's not because of the standard of play to why they are on Court 8. I am sorry I doubt many people there will go and watch this match, not because they can't play, a large percentage of the public probably wouldn't know who they are.

Lets go Ancic and Saretta.

I can't wait ... I fly down from Oakland and head straight out to IW.
Have to think about who to watch ... but I may have to include Rochus/Arazi, because I have points on Ollie in the ATP game, AND because that may be the shortest ever ATP match!

Considering that Nicolas beat Flavio pretty easy the one and only time they met (Long Island '03) I wouldn't be so cocky :D

Not really. But I also don't think of the "big picture" (casual fans, money, etc.)

It's strange to me that people wouldn't know who Tommy Robredo or Alex Corretja are. Maybe not be as familiar with Tommy but Alex C. I understand that "casual" fans go to these tournaments but it's still hard for me wrap my mind around not knowing who most are.

I think that them getting Court 8 is messed up actually.

I am talking about Joe and Jane average not a fan like yourself about not knowing them. I have seen too many stupid fans, an example people confused Federer for Haas.

Court 8 stop whining, Thomas Muster was #3 and he was put on Court 16 at the US Open, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

He's also asking too much of Larose ;)

Larose is my least favourite Canuck. I'd rather Tim win to keep the tournament interesting.

I'm also not too surprised or fussed up about the Corretja-Robredo court assignment. If this was Spain it would be a night match on center... but this isn't Spain ;)

If I was at Indian Wells I would totally go to this match, and be elated that it was on court 8. That's one of the joys of attending US tournaments... they usually put people I like on outer courts. :hearts:

I like Dancevic too. He qualified for a 25K challenger this week in Europe, then lost in the first round. I have no idea why he didn't try to qualify here, he's ranked as high as the other two Canucks are.

I have a funny feeling that for TBE, hope springs eternal no matter how lowly Henman's opponent is...

Good line up, and I for one would find it hilarious if Dent rebounded to throw in a good serving performance and dump Kuerten out in the first round. Q needn't be too upset about the lack of ESPN coverage today either, I'm fairly sure that Agassi will still be in the tournament next week. Here's hoping Hrbaty can win against the X-Man to provide a decent third round encounter with him.

Ha ha, Saretta goes from 0-2 down to *3-2 up on Kiefer. Not good actually though, because he's got a 3-0 record against Spadea as opposed to Kiefer's 1-3. I want to see that seeded battle between Schalken and Spadea - surely the most exciting contest of the third round in terms of flair, power and shotmaking?

Saretta 6-2 :yeah:

Of course Kiefer opened his big mouth after last week's final saying "I'm back" etc. for the 100th time.

And of course the stupid media believed it and talked about Kiefer making the Masters Cup. :haha: :cuckoo: They really did that!

Sjengster
03-13-2004, 06:56 PM
Saretta reels off six games in a row to take the set 6-2 - Kiefer lost five in a row last week against Hanescu, it could cost him this time.

TBE, do you reckon Labadze could repeat his giantkilling ways of 2001 when he beat Agassi in Shanghai by upsetting Moya in the second round here? That all depends on whether Moya decides to tank having being paid a huge appearance fee, of course...

Yeah, I knew they didn't give out appearance fees, I was just wondering if there was any way Moya would put in a similar performance to Agassi's... probably not given that he leads the tour in match wins, I suppose, although this is his first big event since the Masters Cup.

Unlikely ... clay-court season is coming up and there he is even more useless than usual.
Then he will make the finals in Halle of course  but lose in the first round of Wimbledon against someone playing his first Grand Slam (like Elseneer  ).
Then probably a few more decent hard-court and indoor's results but that's it.

Seems as though we've been laughing too much at Kiefer, because it's now 2-2. Zabaleta led all the way in the first set, had a much easier time on serve, then lost the tiebreak comfortably but then broke right away to start the second set. Weird...

Putting Dent's name next to Rios's is disgraceful. Sjengster you should know better.

Fear not Guga fans it will not be over. Guga I just don't get how he can have these mental lapses. He never had these in his prime. Come on Guga your finally getting your body back don't abandoned your strong mind.

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 12:34 AM
It certainly isn't over, Kuerten has the immediate break to start the second set. I have no problem with people rooting for him, but I do have a problem with them telling me that I should do the same just because I happen to like the other guy.

Dirk

Neely

Dirk
03-14-2004, 12:36 AM
Thanks for the good news. I go to look at my scoreboard and I find Guga down a break point. Wonderful. This is like what happened in the Chile final with Gonzo only guga was on a roll.

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 12:37 AM
Dirk, that's a pure coincidence. Schalken and Federer aren't exactly mirror images either, but I still support both of them. How ironic, Kuerten was broken back on a double fault, but is already pressuring Dent's serve again.

Neely
03-14-2004, 12:39 AM
Kuerten breaks again off Dent's double fault... come on, Guga!!

time to hold serve now :banghead:

Dirk

Yes he broke his ass. Now Guga get your baseline game back. This is ridiculous. :fiery:

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 12:39 AM
I think it's safe to say Dent's consistency hasn't improved one iota - he just got broken once again, likewise on a double fault. He's surely approaching double figures now?

SaFed2005
03-14-2004, 12:41 AM

03-14-2004, 12:42 AM

Dirk
03-14-2004, 12:42 AM
Sjeng is a solid player. He is crafty as well. Yeah he has some faults with parts of his game and his strokes but he still is pretty damn consistent and smart not a DentHead. Also for a pacedrainer Sjeng is pretty damn amazing on grass. I give him so much respect for that.

SaFed2005

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 12:46 AM
I know that Dirk, I said as much in the thread about why you like your favourite player, but his rigidity and regimented game is poles apart from the fluidity and versatility of Federer, but that doesn't mean I don't like both of them. Equally, I don't see any reason why I can't put Dent next to Rios in my signature - it's a barometer of support, not of quality and talent, although I hardly reckon that Dent is a completely untalented grinder given the netrushing nature of his game.

SaFed2005
03-14-2004, 12:46 AM
