Who will head into the TMC as the 3rd seed?

Unbelievably, 6 men are in contention for #3 in the last week of competition-

Ljubicic
Davydenko
Blake
Robredo
Gonzalez
Ancic

Even more crazy, I think 5 of the 6 have an arguable shot now that the top 2 are out (as well as 5 of the top 6).

What do you think?

IVAN LJUBICIC, there's no doubt!

Going with Ljubicic because he already has the points. Davydenko would need to reach the quarter final and has been injured recently.

Expect Tursunov to beat Davydenko. However, a Davydenko win would strengthen his claim for the singles spot in the Davis Cup to support Safin.

ljubicic want to go into TMC as 4 or 6. rather play Nadal than Federer in SF.

If Ljubicic went to TMC as a no. 3, wouldn't there be a good probability that he would play Nadal in the SF. IF he went as an even number, he would be in Nadal's group thereby setting up a possible SF meeting with Roger.

It's your record in the round-robin that determines who you play. The winner of the first group plays the 2nd place semifinalist of the other group and vice versa. So I don't see how we can predict who will play whom in the semis.

No, it's random.

one and two head up each group and then the remaining are drawn in pairs. 3/4 5/6 and 7/8. one from each pair is placed into each group

So it could be 1, 3, 5, 8 and 2, 4, 6, 7, etc. etc.

at least, this has always been my understanding of how it works - someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I think that's how I have it too, Deb.

I find the landslide poll to be a little shocking. Of course, if you pick Ljubicic, you have several horses in the race to win Paris- Safin, Berdych, Haas, Djokovic, Tursunov, Gasquet, Murray, etc. If you pick one of the other 5, you only have one contender to count on, so maybe it is not surprising that people are somewhat playing the odds.

Maybe I should have asked if Ljubicic will or will not be the third seed. I think not, because I believe the winner will come from one of the 5 other contenders for #3 at the TMC.

It is random. There is really no difference between 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, and 7 and 8 as far as grouping goes.
