Basel Final: Federer vs. Gonzalez

tennisgal_001

Another final, and another Federer vs. Gonzalez match. Only difference: this time, one of the two is gonna have to grind it out. It's be a best-of-five final, which doesn't bode well for either player. They've both looked EXTREMELY fatigued this week. Gonzalez (defending champion) the ATP's new Ironman, chasing a spot in Shanghai, his THIRD final in three consecutive weeks (Vienna, Madrid, Basel). Federer his second final (Madrid, Basel) playing back-to-back tournaments, finalist in '01 (l. Enqvist) and '03 (l. Henman), vying to win his first title in his hometown. Predict the outcome.

Will be a tight match. I think one fairly easy set for Roger along with a bunch of close sets. Who wins the close sets I don't know but I went for Roger in 4.

A_Rod
10-28-2006, 04:34 PM
Oh yeah, Schoriphan (xD) had it on TB 5-3, perhaps if it had defeated to Federer, reached the title.
Fed and Fer are tired, perhaps one of them chooses the retirement before or during the match.

Come on, Fer, Your time is now! ;)

Federer has lost his two finals at Basel. This match is going to be very interesting.

My honest opinion that Roger is going to come out and demolish him. in some 6-2ish or 3ish straight sets. He has the prize sitting in front of him now, one he probably wants more than another greand slam, and after his ability being put in check from Paradorn, he's going to want to win it convincingly.

Hard match to predict. Since both are tired it may come down to who is mentally tougher so I give Fed the edge. Let's just hope they both fight for it and that it isn't a blowout.

Hope this time will be the good for Gonzo. Srichapan proved that it was possible to push Federer, so why not ? But Roger has the psychological advantage. Vamos :bounce:

Fed is 19-2 in sets against Gonzalez :o

the 2000/01 finals have no relevence at all, they were 2 years before he became a dominance in the sport.

I just want Fernando to play his best. I know full well he is the underdog in the match but there's the old football saying "on any given Sunday".... Looks like Roger just squeeked by today so how knows?

I've seen Gonzalez today and although it was not a long and tiring match he as looking as he was going to die on the court, while Federer had a hard match, but looked better
Fed in 3, if he wants to play in Paris. Otherwise, Fed in 4

Madrid was best of 5 as well.

They were both very fit in Madrid. They are both very tired in Basel. IS tourneys don't normally have best-of-five finals, unlike AMS and Slams.

Trust me i left my college application essay thats due tomorrow to watch he match and i still tried not to sleep, lieterally. I wont get into further analysis of y srichapan didnt "push him" The scoe tells an amazing match but thats not always the case. Ive seen paradorn play better, the only diffrence this time s that he didnt choke as much as he usually does and that made him more consistent.

Federer will win this. Gonzalez may push him and even take a set off of Federer, but that's it. Nothing is stopping Federer from winning this title tomorrow. Nothing. He wants to win this title so badly, and I expect nothing but the best from him on Sunday.

Federer is obviously tired after two finals in consecutive weeks, but Gonzalez could be still more tired with his three finals in consecutive weeks.

For this reason Fernando doesn´t count with any advantage, and Gonzo must reserve his rest of energies for the TMS of Paris.

:ucky for Roger he has already qualified for Shanghai so it's al up to him if he plays, but Gonzo wants to qualify so badly, I doubt he'll withdraw, even if he wins.
