Great performance by Stan. Serve and forehand impressive - just like in Gonzo's case, who's his opponet tomorrow

Now onto the Swiss final. Let those people in Basel have some fun

credit to wawrinka for setting up shots and then going for the winner. then having the mental fortitude to close out david at 5-2 instead of letting him back in it. however, david looked a step slow today and i think many of those wawrinka winners he normally can get to. i wouldnt be surprised if he pulls out of paris at this rate.

good luck next round stan

fucking Nalbandian...

Lol, wawrinka interview in French and yesterday Federer interview was in German. Doesnt Wawrinka know German?

Wondering if Roger has been coaching Wawrinka's forehand. Heh. Nalby was pretty much outplayed from the first game until the very end.

Congrats to Wawrinka :worship:

I was very impressed with Stan today. Nalbandian has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. He was outplayed and there was absolutely nothing he could do, especially in the second set. Stan is great off of both wings and just amazing at hitting shots down the line. Wow! Gonzalez will have to watch out.

It would be awesome for the Basel crowd should they get an all Swiss final on Sunday :D

It's possible he lives in the french portion of Switzerland, thus is more fluent in French. Federer's father is German I think and he grew up in the Swiss German part of Switerland, meaning German was his "main" language.

I know that, but if Basel is in the German speaking part of Switzerland then they should just interview him in German, unless he is not fluent in German...

Stanislas was born in Laussanne which is in the French speaking part of Switzerland so that would be his first language. I don't know how fluent his German would be. Federer spent many of his formative years training in the French part of CH so his French is quite competent.

Stan finally breaks his tie-breaks weakness. He won 3 of 3 tb in Basel (before this event he had awful record 6-18 in '06!) In the first set tie-break Stan trailed 3-5 and 5-6. He saved set point with great forehand :)

Freudian slip :p

Although since Fat Dave did beat the local boy in this tournament a couple of years ago perhaps it was fate

 vCash on him was not wasted :D

Didn't he knock him out of Cincinatti in straights this year too? I remember it was the whole 'Win a $1,000,000 contest' if you pick the winner correctly, and almost everyone had picked Fat Dave to go through

Wonderful - hope for all Swiss Final!! Stan's only 21. He's #40 now. Wonder if he'll pick up enough points to be seeded @AO :) Perhaps in another yr. they can win DC together...

Concerning Stan's german. I've heard him talk german during the DC in Geneva, on the Swiss German TV. And he didn't talk bad, but you could hear his accent and since the swiss know both languages pretty well, I think he prefered talking in his mother language.

On his achievment for today: Gratulations Stan, I hope now you get the recognition you deserve being in the shadow of Federer in Switzerland.

Nicely done, Stan. David's talent yet lack of application bores the hell out of me. I hate to see players with great talent not maximise it - not because they're mentally weak like Safin can be, but because they just can't be arsed.

and Wawrinka has Polish parents:o

Federer is a suise because his fauther is from Switzerland, what's his mother from, that doesn't matter! you must always look what you're father is and not you're mother

What a macho bs. Why should it be "normal" here in Switzerland, just because you handle it that way in Croatia? If a child has parents from diffrent countries, the child should be allowed to choose for whom he/she wants to play. Thats fair for everyone. And i think it gets handled in most countries like that. I mean it's not like the father is worth more than the mother.

I agree with the first part of your post, but Nalbandian's mental laziness is very similar to Safin's mental laziness. Both players have squandered any chance of being remember in a few decades time.
