I think Gasquet's is certainly more consistant but in terms of "attack" and change of pace Roger has the edge.

Gasquet has more power both CC and DTL and can hit outright winners easier. He can also hit an inside-out BH from the middle of he court for winners which is rare for a one-hander (or two-hander but especially a one-hander)

Federer's Bh is better at:

-returning serve,
-hitting slice
-hitting defensively (slice or flicking the wrist on a reach)
-hitting on the run
-dropshots off of

Maybe neither is better? Maybe they're just different?

Roger: +more variation, much better return of serve.
-misshits a plenty when under severe pressure
Gasquet:+ more consistent.

I'll pick Roger's.

1 year ago I would have said Gasquet hands down, but Fed's backhand improved so much in the last year that they are really close now in that department... Gasquet might have more power with it, but Fed has much more variety and it's getting more and more powerful:) He hit a lot of unbelievable winners with it in Madrid, especially the semis and finals:yeah:

Federer's is pretty amazing when he can really roll over the top with it (allowing for some absurdly extreme angles), but he has to be set up perfectly for that and when he's not it's not as impressive as Gasquet's.

I pick Gasquet because he's more consistently impressive off that side.

Quite true. He has to be set up well for it, but the BH drive dtl is getting better and better. He doesn't try and hit it for winners all that much, but he sets up the FH with it by hitting the dtl BH about 2 feet away from the sideline and close to the baseline. He did this over and over again against Fena which set up the FH in the middle of the court. His BH CC drive is getting better and better as well.

Gasquet...more consistent, but Federer's backhand is becoming better and better. If he can keep improving it..might just be the key for him to beat Nadal on clay.

robredo or haas?

Haas, of course. It's really the only outstanding feature of his game. Seems to be one of the strongest all around players but mentally too weak/unfocesed to do much. He and Gasquet are pretty much Federer's without the forehand and return, IMO.

Haas...*looks at sig*. Boredo's backhand is mediocre at best.

Gasquet's is overall a better shot. On a fast hardcourt or grass I would go for Roger's but overall still Gasquet.

Both Got Great backhand

you can't say who's better/ Different

But Roger's Backhand is my favorite one

In fact, you can say, Nalbandian is better then Roddick

I think that one thing that Federer can't do is just stand from almost anywhere in the court and really hit a flat/powerful shot out of nowhere and really surprise his opponent. Of course he can do this all day long on the forehand.

Actually that is true...I saw he`s two latest matches in Madrid and he backhand has improved. It was very impressing but only time will tell if he can control the high bounce topspin from nadal

I love watching both of them, but I'd give the edge to Federer, because he can and does use more variety on the shot. Gasquet has a beautiful topspin and hard flat drive on the backhand, but you rarely see him use the slice backhand, especially in situations where it would be advantageous for him in point construction. He also tends to hit his backhand from deeper in the court than Roger on most shots, which, although he can smack screaming winners out of nowhere, still puts him just that much farther back from developing it as a consistent shot to compliment an all-court game. Richard and Justine have very similar backhands, but Federer uses his variety to actually play more effective and consistent tennis (IMO).

Gasquet all the way long
- more power
- better techinque
- can shoot winners from all over the court
- awesome on the run
- could go for inside-out backhand which is huge
- he returns pretty good I've watched his match againts Roddick and he was returing Andy's serves almost like Roger
- it's more universal, Roger's backhand sucks on clay, and Gasquet backhand is lethal on clay , he could hit clean winner afater clean winner when he is on
- he is 20 so this shoot maybe even much better in 1-2 years
