Amazing match from Richie. Best I have seen from him this year with the one against Murray in Toronto and the one against Haas in DC

Good win but Safin was probably fatigued and not at his best. :p

Was it attacking tennis from Richard or the recent defensive $@!*, vincayou?

i just can t agree with that :o
he played well though, particularly in the first set.....but he must really work on his forehand(too many unforced errors or short balls from this side again in this match)

Good. :)

Richie will hopefully have a good ranking after RG next year. He has very little to defend before that due to his horrible start to the year last time around. Of course it would be preferable for him to have a higher ranking now but it is must be fun to play without the pressure of points to defend. His game should suit rebound ace okay, I don't know how he's only won 1 set in three matches at AO.

No defensive shit. Very agressive, especially in the first set, with very few mistakes. 2nd set was not as good from the middle of it.

Safin was serving very well.

No, RG was very aggressive in the first set, good returns, serve and volley, great performance. One could see what he is capable of.

The second set contained more errors from both players, Richie struggling to hold at 6-5, but he served it out on the first match point on his own serve, what more to wish for?

actually i thought Richard played A LOT better in the Davis Cup match against this same Safin.(but Safin was just on fire that day)

Safin, rest up for Paris and DC.

Probably benefits from a rest having gone deep in the draw last week and with Paris next week. Almost impossible to play deep into 3 tournaments in successive weeks.

Great performance from Richie, and yes this is his 1st win against Safin. :)

Now good luck for the rest of the tourney!

yes, and then missed put-aways from 5 feet inside the baseline repeatedly.
In the second set that i saw, Ritchie wasn't playing great either. But kudos to him for playing his own game.

true, but some of us admitted that without problems. But the defeat may turn out a blessing in disguise for Marat with Bercy coming up, while the win may have meant more for Richard, so everything is fine, no? ;)

Agree again. With Bercy and DC coming up, Marat needs some rest.

Too bad. After killing off those first two mps, I hoped that Marat would also be able to get to 6:6 in the TB. Too many UEs. :(

Congrats Gasquet.

Yes Richard won! I was nervous the whole day at school today since Safin has won the last two times. (or three?) Does anyone know if this match was shown on livestream?

P.S. Good thing I picked Gasquet on virtual betting. Since the odds were against Richie, that means more vcash for me.:)

I'm a fan of Richie, and seeing how this is a french tourney, I'm not too choked up that he won the match. Not only that, but Marat has been in a tourney every week, and really needs to rest so it will all work out.

Good Luck to Richie next round.

It's very good to hear this news because one of Safin's fan quoted my post to say "No way Gas will win" something like that in live score thread!

Well done Gasquet! :rocker2:
