Great win by the serving machine Wayne Arthurs and there was no need for a tiebreaker.

:o

He lost to him once 4 years ago, but now?

(and he's 35 years old :help:)

Ouch - surely Robredo might as well cancel his plans for Shanghai now - I would expect he'll be overhauled now unless he puts up something totally out-of-the-blue in Bercy

Wasn't Robredo up 3-0 in the third? You mean Arthurs was able to break once in the first and twice in the second? :bolt:

this is no suprise.

Robredo had his hot streak on the dust a few months ago.

On the carpet against a big serve.

Arthurs always had a shot.

yes he lost to arthurs 4 years ago...and again today

great comeback by wayno in the 3rd set - 5 games in a row. not bad considering his age and the fact he'd had 3 tough qualie matches and a doubles match before this.

but i have to say the result doesn't totally surprise me. tommy hasn't been in great form and he always struggles against big servers, esp on indoor carpet

tommy, tienes que aprender a jugar contra los cañoneros..

I hope Robredo doesn't make it to the masters. He would be like a filler, he is horrible against other top players.

Vamos Wayne, great performance and Boredo hates playing these big servers.

This is great news for Gonzalez and for David.

I watched the match and Robredo had an unbelievable mental breakdown in the third set. Robredo was the dominant player and hit one passing shot after another, but then he suddenly started making a huge number of unforced errors and gave the break away. He couldn't hit 1 shot over the net from that moment on.

Bad luck Tommy! I really hope Tommy makes the Masters. I find it really upsetting how nasty people are to him on this board. He gets such negative comments and he is such a lovely guy with a nice game. I don't think he is boring at all - just because he is nice, average and un-controversial you all prefer people like Nalbandian and Berdych (who make nasty comments about other players). What ever happened to people respecting 'nice guys'.

Poor Tommy, I hope he makes the Masters and goes on to find much more success in the future - I'm so happy he won at Hamburg TMS. He may be a filler if he makes the Masters, but there are heaps of fillers in the history of the Masters (Berasategui, Bruguera, Costa etc.) and Tommy is equally deserving of being there but it looks like he will just miss out which makes me very sad. I wish people weren't always so nasty about him - calling him a muppet and 'boredo' I just don't understand.

The only thing I don't like about Tommy Boredo is the way he sneers at opponents. He always has this nasty look when he plays. Also he is incredibly boring. Tommy has no kill shot. He is just always 'there'.

He is certainly not the most entertaining player to watch, but he does have a "kill shot", his forehand is very powerful, especially on clay.

But having a dominant shot doesn't necesarily make the player more entertaining anyways.

Always felt Wayno had a chance in this one...but Boredo seemed to be all over him after the 1st set...couldn't see a win happening from there

Well done Wayno!! :bounce: :bigclap:

He could have made some important points this week, but this doesn't mean he is already out of the race yet after this defeat. He has some advantage over the 9th and there are only 50 points to give this week at maximum, and Paris is still to come.

What does the event benefit from "fillers"? I cannot believe either the player, spectator or event gains from players who lose all their matches. Actually, the only real "filler" in your list was Berasategui won just 8 games in 3 matches in 1994.

However, most neutrals would much prefer Gonzalez or Baghdatis to reach the masters because they are more likely to cause upsets and beat the other players. Tommy will probably find himself out of his depth in such a high calibre field.

Let's face it: whenever it comes to a fast surface, where Boredo's mediocrity is fully exposed, anyone with a game that suits a fast surface will defeat him. I mean, semi-retired Voltchkov defeated him in DC.

Wayne! :hatoff: Good to see he's got some matches left in him!

I really hope Boredo crashes out to the Bye in Paris cause it would be pathetic if he makes it to Shanghai.
