NBL ROUND SIX

Mr Flamboyant

Melbourne a little shorter than anticipated at $1.58 & -3.5 vs the Wildcats in Perth .. Never easy to win over there no matter who it is, but it's tough to beat the Tigers, no matter who you are!!

Adelaide's desperate position makes the -7.5 for them look attractive against the Dragons .. The 36ers should be hell bent on winning this one well because they're running out of chances to build their bank at home!

Totals wise, overs look the call in both IMO, with the Tigers v Perth at 200.5, and certainly the Adelaide v Dragons match should go over 207.5 .. ?

Mr Flamboyant
10-24-2006, 06:10 AM
Looking further ahead to Thursday, the Taipans flew out to Singapore this morning minus Luke Martin, who aggravated his ankle injury late in Saturday's win over Perth ..

Development player Scott Cook has been promoted to the line-up .. This guy is pretty mature for a d-player (24) and actually holds US college records in steals, free throws and three point % .. Ironically he too has only just recovered from an ankle injury .. we would have seen a bit of him during the last couple of home games had he not been sidelined ..

The sixers v dragons game could go two ways - the usual "coach gets sacked and next game the players turn up and put in a blinder" or they just drop the bundle completely and get flogged by 30 odd.

Question is who is going to defend Horvarth? Dragons are walking into the Dome with the smallest lineup in the league for this game and nobody to matchup on him. He is going to have a field day tomorrow night in the low post....

Horvath to score 23 or more - $2.20

I really can't see how the Adelaide v Dragons ends in anything other than a comfortable 36ers win ATS .. Sure teams in the Dragons' situation have a habit of lifting but I just don't see how they're going to do it against Adelaide, who look stronger right across the court .. And if Heal pulls out, forget about it ..

Add to that the situation Adelaide finds itself in (2-6) .. and it's all systems go for the 36ers ..

A couple tonight :

Melbourne ML (-102) over Perth-----------1 unit

Adelaide -8 over Dragons------------0.2 of a unit

How I got such a good price on Melbourne is due to a parlay posted here before the hockey game started :

http://www.cappersmall.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1647611&postcount=13

I have since put a further 0.5 on Melbourne to give me -102.

It's a step back in time trying to gain accurate information on who's actually playing and who's not in this league .. There's at least one other site where punters are of the understanding Farley will play and Wheeler will miss ..

The 36ers have it all to play for tonight .. they've already dropped as many matches at home this campaign as they have over the past two or three seasons. Think their desperation will carry them to a comfortable win despite their absentee list. The Dragons don't have the horses at the moment ..

Am similarly not tempted to bet anything on this game though .. The Horvath prop would get a go if Tab Sportsbet offered it .. !

People really need to rethink this "fade Cairns" mentality imo .. me included because I did go for Singapore +1.5 in the tipping comp last night ..

Cairns is legit .. They're 5-2 and still has Luke Martin, Gary Boodnikoff and Damon Thornton (import) to join the lineup yet!!

The days of the hapless Snakes are well and truly gone .. this is a ballclub on an upswing ..

Mr Flamboyant
10-27-2006, 02:16 PM
Couple of plays jump off the page at me for tomorrow ..

Melbourne -12.5 vs Townsville .. Mainly because of the position both of these teams come into this match .. The Tigers smarting from a midweek loss and the Crocs probably already with what they realistically budgeted for on this road trip - one win .. Melbourne should be a little on the ruthless side for this one and if that is the case, there's no way known the very undersized Crocs can go with them .. They'll be fodder ..

West Sydney v Brisbane .. OVER 203.5 .. West Sydney will have all sorts of trouble containing the Bullets .. the only worry with this is will the Pigs hold up their end of the bargain ie score enough points themselves? Can certainly envisage Brisbane putting a decent score on the board .. Overs always a little risky at that Homebush dog box where the rims are as tight as ... you get the picture!

Got a question for U Aussies..Cairns supposed to be one of the better teams am i right? if yes why is the line @ -2 or 2.5 against the worst team in this league?

is the home factor a very big deal in the NBL or because the Dragons are from Singapore and the line is so low because of the conditions there?

Couple of reasons for the low line, because on paper agree Taipans should be at least a 4 point fav:

* Cairns played Singapore in Singapore on Friday night, it's a 9 hour flight, longest trip in the NBL
* Dragons have bolstered their inside presence this week with the signing of a new import and another big who was on the injured list, Burston will be suiting up for tonight.
* Home factor does play a part in the NBL IMO
* Home team will probably be the most desperate they have been all season tonight, especially after the week they have had off the court with their caoch being sacked and one of their imports as well.

Btw Dragons are a Melbourne team and not from Singapore ;)

Drmic was touted as the next big thing in australia when he was coming through the youth system

Franklin was a stud for the Kings in their first year they won the championship in 2003, his combination with the other import at the time for the Kings was probably the best the NBL have ever seen

are u kidding Chris is playing in Australia too??

Franklin was a replacement for Hill who injured himself for the skyliners but couldn t really impress during his days over there..

Williams was one of the best players here in those times ..he couldn t land on the big teams in Europe i think mostly because he can t shoot..his inside game was good enough but in these times big people are a threat outside the zone so ...

Williams played here in 2003 with Franklin for the Kings before going over there. Williams is a bit of a chequebook player though, he is playing in Sth Korea I think the last time I heard and didn't want to play in Europe because he wasn't getting enough money.

I watched him play one game in the Euroleague against CSKA, he ripped them apart, scored something like 30 points and had 15 recbounds for the game.

yeah Williams is definetely looking for the money..another player who i recognize is Rashad Tucker .. he had a 4 week contract with Brandt Hagen 2 or 3 years ago but they didn t sign him after that which was very surprising..i thought his game was good enough to compete here, i actually had the pleasure to play against him in a friendly match

Geez that sounds so familiar, especially in the NBA ;) Oh yeah bring it on Baby!!The High Flying Suns are the Champs this yr :wavey:

Wow, I had all but given up on my Under bet for the taipan and dragons game after that 73 point first quarter. Gee, that was a lucky break. Now time for the kings game to sail over 202.5.
