good joke :)

think nadal is at 4270 thoug

only pertinent question is - will federer have by AO collected more points then 2nd 3rd & 4th clowns combined ? and the answer to the question is - if he plays paris he will. :) because his advantage will after paris be about 4500 points !!!!???!!! and after shanghai ?????????!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

please fed dont do that :crying2: , they are after all your tour buddies and our idols :)

Yes he will "supress" and surpass that record.

Clara Bow

Yes, he will break it and pass it by a lot.

I think Federer will surpass the record...I'm not really sure how to suppress a record, though.

do a simple math. he needs to break 10,000 to get that. impossible,

do a simple math. he needs to break 10,000 to get that. impossible,

nalbandy defends 750 points, ljubo and roddick 450 so its very much possible with 9000 points only ( basel 250+paris500+masters250 :)) anyway temporarily he has just 700 entry points more than 2nd+3rd :) or 150 race points more than clowns 2 and 3 combined.

Almost certainly.

Nadal would need to win everthing until AO and Federer score almost nothing.

if roger takes break until after AO and nadal wins paris, masters cup, some tournament before AO and AO it will be close :)

Of corse Federer will break this record.
The more interesting question is if Federer can break Graf's record of 186 weeks at number 1 and become the tennis player (male or female) with the longest reign at the #1 spot.

Federer potentially could end the year with 2 times the points on Nadal.

please fed is going to beat connors record only way he won't if he dosen't play any tourney tune after the australia open and nadal wins all the titles until then.
And we all know that not going to happen so please be realistic and nadal hasn't made a final since wimby.
OH i wouldn't bet 2 cent on him winning paris or shanghai not going to happen.

The only way Federer will not make the mark is if he does a Borg thing by retiring at the end of this year and asks to be taken off the rankings for next year. Fat chance of course. :D

The ATP doesn't allow players to be removed from the ranking. See the Agassi episode...

Will Federer get to 200 consecutive weeks at no.1 seems a more interesting question? To do that, he'd have to stay no. 1 right through the whole of next season. It would be very impressive (it is pretty likely) if at the end of 2007, he has a double digit grand slam count, over 50 titles and 200 weeks at no.1.

For once, a prediction in MTF that is too late to be really interesting - usually the forecasts are more like "will Nadal be the greatest of all time, he is better than Sampras was at the same age" and such.

Of course Fed will break the record.

It's (still not) for certain now since nadal pulled back from bnp paris

federer has already 7620 points this year -500MC -250 doha -1000 AO = 6020 at least by end of AO

Rafa has 4195 + 750 +1000 +250= 6195 max. oh shit almost, sorry, I thought he had the record already  wel just gonna post the calculation now anyway...

Federer will end the year with a minimum lead of 2600 points. This is if Nadal wins the TMC undefeated, Fed doesn't play Paris or the TMC.

Fed has to defend Doha and the AO. Nadal could theoretically gain 2500 points on him if Fed doesn't play and Nadal wins a 250 point tournament and the AO. Fed would still be #1 through the AO. Nadal could then overtake him if he played before Dubai I *think*.

In any case, if Fed wins a match or two at the TMC and Nadal doesn't win it undefeated, then Fed will be guaranteed the record.

In reality it is now certain to be overtaken because Nadal would not play 2 events before the AO. It is likely Federer is going deep into next year as number one and Nadal is much more likely to be challenged for number 2.

Can Nadal have a record to???

At this point, Fed has a chance to break Steffi Graf's record of 186 weeks in a row at #1, a record that I never thought would be approached.

If you realistically think he won't, which I doubt, you are either mentally challenged or seriously delusional.Watch as Ljubicic wins every tournament in the next 17 weeks.
And crumble as Federer's no.1 ranking slips to 2.
