In reality:

1 Federer

2 Nadal

3 Ljubicic/Roddick/Davydenko - of similar standard with little between them

Expect gap between Federer and Nadal to be bigger than gap between Nadal and number 3.

Ljubo defends Paris final but then not much through AO. He'll still be top 5 after AO, but he will drop later (that RG SF was a fluke). Nadal didn't play AO 06 so there are no mathematical chances he will not be nr 2.

I say:

1) Federer.
2) Rafa.
3) Roddick.
4) Ljubo.
5) Several candidates here. But I'll go with Nalby.

1. Roger Federer
2. Rafael Nadal
3. Andy Roddick
4. Fernando Gonzalez
5. Andy Murray

It's possible! Andy Murray is a great player, but he's a total headcase. If he can somehow fix that he could easily be up there. Fena has been playing incredible tennis for a while now.

I hope Andy is up there but i feel he would have to do amazing to reach Number 5 and really needs a decent performancance at AO and then a good first few months to have ago at reaching top 10 in summer.

Nalbandian has to defend 1215 points from now until the end of AO 2007. I don't see him holding onto a top five spot.

Nalbandian will need a good Paris showing to get a stranglehold in that top 5 because he will have to defend 1100 points at the TMC and AO.

Kind of hard seeing that Federer has TMC finals to defend and the AO title to defend, whereas Nadal didn't participate in neither of them. Nadal can only add to his tally by participating in the TMC and the AO. The only player out of your bunch who really has not much to defend is Roddick (didn't participate in last year's TMC and a 4r at the AO is easily attainable and thensome).

I insist: it is impossible that Nadal is not number 2 at the end of AO. Ljubo and Nalbi can't catch up even if they win EVERYTHING through AO and Nadal doesn't play any event. Davy and Roddick might if they win absolutely everything (Paris, TMC, AO) and Nadal doesn't pick any points. This obviously will not happen. I'm not a fan of Nadal but the OP is asking about what we think, not what we wish, so the nr 1 and 2 are set and we can discuss about 3-5.

Some people actually don't have him in the top 5. How stupid are these idiots.

Yes, Federer does have the AO early next year, but on points race from start of year to date the 1 to 2 gap is much bigger than the 2 to 3 gap.

Currently, Federer leads Nadal by 620 points and Nadal leads Ljubicic by 375 /Roddick by 391. Remove AO points and Federer leads by 420 points. Federer plays Basel next week which will contribute fully to his points total.
