There you go kids, the greatest 299 players of the Open Era.

Yup. Great thread. Thanks for compiling all these players.

And if you add MTF's very own Xristos, you got the greatest 300 players since 1969 :)

Until recently I might have nominated Santoro, but how nice for him that he is not longer in the running. ;)

That was awesome to see. I feel sorry for Tony Roche, Todd Martin, Mecir, and Henman for getting to so many QF, SF, and F and never winning.

Roche can at least be consoled by having won the French in 1966 (before Open Era). :)

I understand it's not the foremost goal for the players ;) ... but I wonder if Connors' 41 QF will ever be matched.

Even if Roger makes the quarters at every slam for the next 6 years, he will only be at 38!

How did Connors do that?! He only played the AO twice, too.

He had only a few serious opponents in the 70ies, won 2 Grand Slam titles in 74 against a 39-year old Australian in the finals.
Borg could have bettered it easily but he played only 27 GS tournaments.

So Borg played 17 GS semi-finals and lost only one?
I wonder who beat him?

now it would be an interesting question to know who is the best player never to reach a slam QF?

I think Arnaud Boetsch is one of the best...
He had won more then 230 matches on ATP, 3 tournaments, Davis Cup.
He reached 4th round in all four Grand Slams: Australian Open (1993), Roland Garros (1991), Wimbledon (1992) & US Open (1996).

P.S.

Borg's 16-1 record in GS semifinals has to be one of the most overlooked achievements in the sport.
